We had a fantastic inaugural gasshuku. It was a weekend of immersive training in jodo, iaido, kenjutsu, and some exposure to kusarigama.

The kitchen crew kept everyone going with hearty and delicious homemade Japanese cuisine for all meals. The spacious and well-lit training hall and wooden floors made the training more authentic and grueling--in a good way.

Everyone worked hard and had great attitudes about the training intensive!

The majority of our home dojo trained for 5 hours this weekend. Regular class Friday evening with a focus on Jo do and sword seminar with a focus on kenjutsu kata and intro to formal bow-ins. We’re continuing to build on basic skills and kata.
Join us for a class Friday evening 5-7 pm and sign up for our immersive gasshuku happening early September!

The final sword seminar of 2025 is next Saturday, July 12th. Registration is $75 (early registration window has closed). New students are welcome, ages 16+. Attendance at this seminar meets eligibility requirements for registration for the upcoming GASSHUKU Camp Kobudo.

In addition to the sword seminar, those interested in attending GASSHUKU may also train on a regular Friday evening class, provided you give Sensei Comstock advanced notice.

We had a blast with an Independence Day Teppanyaki event as we are continuing to fine-tune our menu for the upcoming GASSHUKU Camp Kobudo in 2 months. Grilled meat, veggies, and yakisoba noodles! The youth enjoyed attempting to hack a watermelon similar to pin the tail on the donkey. No limbs were severed in this process. Sensei Comstock and Mrs. Comstock are excellent cooks!

We've had a great turnout and training at the past 2 sword seminars . . . only 1 remaining this summer on Saturday, July 12th from 10 am to 1 pm. Early registration is $50, due by June 28th. Afterward, registration is $75.

If you've been thinking about trying kendo or iaido, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet. We also add jo to the mix on Friday night trainings.
