The Berkeley Buccaneers finished up the 2018 season with a great finish at the state meet at Sailfish Aquatic Center in Martin County on Friday. The boys finished 4th overall just 7pts out of the runner up position and scored the most points at the state meet in school history. On the day the boys set 7 new school records. The team had 6 swims qualify for All-American Status and will go on the pool wall. The 200 free Relay (M. Dieffenthaller, Tanner, Ingerick, Harrison) won the school’s first ever relay and over all state championship. The relay also qualified for automatic All-American status and broke the oldest school record by over 2 seconds. The 200 Medley Relay (Tanner, Hatoum, C. Dieffenthaller and Showalter) finished on the podium in third and set a new school record breaking the old mark by more than two seconds. The 200 Medley also qualified for All-American status. The school record was broken twice on the day in the 50 Free, Peter Tanner broke the record in the morning then Mathew Dieffenthaller broke the record at night as the boys finished 3rd and 4th in the event both qualify for All-American status. Mathew Dieffenthaller set a school record and finished 2nd in the 100 and qualified for All-American status in the event. Peter Tanner set a school record in the 100 Back. Ryaan Hatoum reset his school record in the 100 breast stroke finishing and outstanding 3rd and qualified for All-American status. The boys 400 freestyle relay (M. Dieffenthaller, Ingerick, DeRosier, and C. Dieffenthaller) finished 5th on the evening. Other notable individual swims were turned in by Christopher Dieffenthaller finishing 5th in the 100 Breast and 6th in the 200IM. Logan Ingerick finished up a strong Freshman year finishing 12th and 14th in the 200 and 500 Freestyles. Mason Edmund scored points and finished 13th in the 500 free. Dante DeRosier finished 16th in the 200 free while the divers Reid Cecil and Mason Mosher finished 10th and 15th.
The girls also had a fantastic meet finishing 9th overall. The Lady Bucs were led by three time All-American and State champion Nicole Stambo who finished 2nd and Junior Amy Wotovich who finished 4th in Diving. The girls 200 Medley (Easton, Holmes, Arcila, Vergara) and 200 Freestyle Relay (Vergara, Arcilla, Tanner, Easton) finished 6th and 7th. Senior Sabrina Vergara finished her swimming career at Berkeley with a 15th place finish while Alison Holmes set a new school record in the morning and finished 15th at finals.
