Torrington Wrestling Club showed up BIG this weekend 💪🔥
TWC hit up TWO tournaments, starting with the Montana Open. We took 16 kids to a tournament with over 1,200 wrestlers — hands down the toughest competition we’ve seen yet.
Even better… 3 of our own coaches stepped on the mat and proved they’ve still got it! 👊

Our tournament is quickly approaching. Lets clear up some confusion!

📌 USA Wrestling Age Divisions & Weights – Please Read Carefully

We want to help explain how USA Wrestling organizes age divisions and why it may look different from what many of us are used to in Nebraska or Colorado.

🔹 USA Wrestling is based on BIRTH YEAR, not grade level or school cutoff dates.
Age divisions are determined strictly by the wrestler’s year of birth, which is why you’ll see divisions like 8U, 10U, 12U, etc.

For example:
• 10U = wrestlers born in 2016–2017
• 12U = wrestlers born in 2014–2015

👉 Important:
Just because your child is in 10U does NOT mean they will only wrestle 10-year-olds.
Within a division, wrestlers may be younger or older, but they are grouped because they fall within the same birth-year window.

🔹 How this differs from other states:
• Nebraska often groups wrestlers by school grade, not age
• Colorado typically uses the wrestler’s age as of September 1st
• USA Wrestling uses birth year only, nationwide

This means:
✔️ Some matchups may look different than what you’ve seen before
✔️ Everyone at the tournament is following the same USA Wrestling rules
✔️ Our wrestlers are not at a disadvantage — every club is in the same system

🔹 Weights Matter Just as Much as Age
Within each age division, wrestlers are placed into specific weight classes (shown in the chart). Matchups are made based on certified weights, which helps keep competition fair and safe.

We know this system can be confusing at first, especially if you’ve wrestled mostly in Nebraska or Colorado tournaments. Please know this is standard USA Wrestling, and we are happy to answer questions about your specific wrestler.
