🇵đź‡âś¨ DID YOU KNOW? The Philippines has a rich history of inventors, scientists, and engineers.
Seeing young Filipino innovators today makes me proud—and as a Filipino American, it also gives me a beautiful opportunity to honor my own father.
🤍 PEDRO F. VENTURA — A QUIET SCIENTIFIC LEGACY
My father served as Chief Microbiologist of Central Azucarera de Tarlac, where his documented work focused on biomethanation and biogas—using anaerobic digestion to transform agro-industrial waste into useful energy while reducing pollution.
His work was also documented in an international UNIDO report, which identified him as the company’s Chief Microbiologist and presenter of a proposal to expand an existing 1,600 m³ anaerobic digestion unit.
That work became part of an early chapter of what we now call renewable energy, environmental biotechnology, sustainability, and the circular economy.
In 1988, his research was published as:
“Status of Biomethanation Development in the Philippines”
MIRCEN Journal of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology
What touches me most is knowing that his quiet scientific work helped advance ideas that remain deeply relevant today: turning waste into energy, reducing pollution, and using science to solve real-world problems.
The more I learn about his work, the more grateful—and proud—I become.
