The Word Counseling Jeanine Johnson
DMin Biblical Counseling
Virtual and in-person sessions. Located in Tampa, FL. Our trials can seem overwhelming and unending.

As Christians, we’re not promised that we will be free from problems. In fact, James tells us, “…count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds….” (James 1:2 ESV). Because we live in a culture counter to God’s Word, much of the support and influence in our lives come from sources that do not align with God’s Word. When we try to solve our problems based on the world’s solutio

ns, we don’t receive lasting relief. So, if I’m a Christian, why am I still struggling—maybe with the same problem—and how do I get relief? That’s where biblical counseling may be able to offer hope and help. As a biblical counselor, we believe the Bible is “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV). Doesn’t biblical counseling sound like a good place to develop tools to learn how to deal with anxiety, depression, anger, relationship issues—trials of various kinds? What does a biblical counseling session look like? First of all, it’s confidential, and lasts about 50 minutes. We meet weekly one-on-one for a period of several weeks or several months. We spend time discussing your situation and we talk about how we can use the Bible to renew our thinking and learning; “to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:23-24 ESV). Basically, biblical counseling is learning how to apply God’s Word to the situations in our lives to enable us to become more like Christ.

Spiritual abuse often happens when Scripture, authority, guilt, or fear are used to control rather than shepherd.

God never intended His Word to be used as a weapon to manipulate, silence, or dominate others. True biblical leadership reflects the character of Christ—humility, gentleness, truth, and sacrificial love.

If you have experienced spiritual abuse, remember: the failures of people do not change the goodness of God. Christ is the Good Shepherd who binds up the brokenhearted, leads with compassion, and calls His people to walk in the light.

“Shepherd the flock of God that is among you… not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.” — 1 Peter 5:2–3

Healing is possible. Hope is found in Christ.

“God’s Word was given to liberate consciences, not to control them. Christ calls His people to truth, grace, and freedom.”

The cross is the greatest reminder that God is at work even in our hardest circumstances. ✝️

What appeared to be the darkest moment in history became the means of salvation for all who trust in Christ. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God displayed His power to bring redemption, hope, and life out of suffering and sorrow.✨

If you are walking through a difficult season today, take heart. The God who brought good from Calvary is still at work in your life. His purposes are wise, His timing is perfect, and His grace is sufficient.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28

Suffering is never easy. Yet God often uses trials to awaken us, deepen our dependence on Him, and draw us closer to His heart.

While we may not understand every hardship, we can trust that our Heavenly Father is at work, even in seasons of pain.

“Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.” — Psalm 119:67

Biblical counseling offers something the world cannot: hope rooted in the sufficiency of Christ and His Word. While circumstances matter, lasting change comes as we learn to know God, trust His promises, and respond to life’s challenges in a way that honors Him.

No struggle is outside His care. No heart is beyond His reach. Through Scripture, the Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out, teaching us to walk in faith even when circumstances remain difficult.

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” — 2 Peter 1:3

💐Welcome, June.

A new month can feel like a fresh start. We make new plans, set new goals, and look ahead with renewed hope. Yet for the believer, our hope is not found in the turning of a calendar page.

God gives us something even better than a new month—He gives us new mercies every morning.

No matter what May held, His compassion has not failed. No matter what June may bring, His faithfulness remains unchanged. Each day is another opportunity to rest in His grace, trust His promises, and walk in obedience.

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23

May this month be marked not by striving, but by resting in the steadfast love of God.

✨Sunday reminds us that God is at work even when we cannot see His hand. Seasons of waiting are never wasted in the Lord’s economy. He uses them to deepen our trust, strengthen our faith, and draw us closer to Himself.

If you find yourself carrying burdens today, take them to Christ. His timing is perfect, His promises are sure, and His grace is sufficient for every trial. 🛐

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14)

Some of the best of God’s people may pass through the deepest trouble.
— Charles Spurgeon

Trials are not evidence that God has abandoned His children. Often, the Lord does some of His deepest work in the midst of suffering, refining our faith, teaching us dependence, and drawing us closer to Himself.

Jesus never promised a trouble-free life, but He did promise His presence and His victory.

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
— John 16:33

Whatever difficulty you are facing today, take heart. Christ has overcome, and He is with His people in every trial.

Despair often grows when our hearts lose sight of the character and promises of God. Scripture continually calls us to preach truth to ourselves in seasons of fear, grief, confusion, and suffering. Hope is not found in perfect circumstances, but in the steadfastness of the Lord.

Even in the darkest moments, believers can cry out honestly before God while anchoring their souls in His unchanging truth.

You would not have called to me unless I had been calling to you,” said the Lion. — C.S. Lewis, The Silver Chair 🦁

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” — Romans 10:13

The Lord is not distant from those who seek Him.
Even our longing for Him is evidence of His gracious pursuit.
He draws sinners to Himself with mercy, truth, and steadfast love.

If your heart is stirring toward Christ today, do not ignore His call.
Run to Him. He is faithful to save.

We are what we believe we are.”
— C.S. Lewis

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2

Biblical counseling seeks more than behavior modification—it aims at heart transformation through the truth of God’s Word. What we believe shapes how we live, respond, fear, hope, and endure. True change comes as our minds are renewed by Scripture and our hearts are anchored in Christ.
