This past weekend, the 12U Firebirds played in the USSSA Black Eyed Susan tournament. It was their first tournament playing in the 12 Open division and it was.... challenging. It's hard to go from going 5-0 and going home with rings in their last "C" tournament to going 0-4 in this one and just going home.

But we knew it would be rough at first. We expected it. Confidence was shaky and the girls were hesitant in the field and at the plate. They made mistakes they don't usually make. Do we really deserve to be here? Yes, girls, YOU DO!!

They played progressively better as Saturday went on. They looked much more like themselves in the last game of the day, making some really nice defensive plays.

Early Sunday morning, they played a much more competitive game! They had more hits in that single game than they did in the 3 games on Saturday combined. They scored 4 runs (all on 2 outs!) to tie it up in the 4th, but they ultimately fell short of pulling out the W.

But now that that first one is behind them, the team is looking forward to their next tournament - Rock N Rumble NIT - in 2 weeks! Can't wait to see these determined girls really show what they can do!
