It’s Aeration Week at Sycamore Golf Club! We completed the Back 9 ahead of schedule today and plan to aerate the Front 9 tomorrow, October 7.
Why Do We Aerate the Greens?
Aeration helps:
Relieve compaction – Thousands of rounds put tremendous pressure on the soil. Aeration opens the soil back up and allows roots to breathe.
Improve water and nutrient movement – Open channels allow water, air, and nutrients to reach the root system more effectively.
Encourage stronger roots – Healthier soil conditions promote deeper, stronger roots that help turf withstand heat, drought, and heavy traffic.
Improve drainage – Aeration helps water move through the soil profile and prevents it from sitting on the surface.
Improve long-term playing conditions – While greens may look and play differently immediately after aeration, the long-term result is healthier, smoother, and more resilient putting surfaces.
Think of aeration as maintenance for the turf’s foundation. The short-term disruption helps us provide better playing conditions for the months ahead.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this important work.
