ππββοΈ A Sad Day for Lassen High School Swimming πββοΈπ
Sadly, the fight to preserve the Lassen High School Swim Team and the fall pool season has come to an end.
The Lassen Union High School District Board has voted to discontinue the swim team. Students, parents, coaches, and community members made several appeals to both district leadership and the school board, hoping to find a path forward that would allow the program to continue. Despite those efforts, the parties involved were ultimately unable to reach a solution that would reinstate the team.
As a result, there will be no Lassen High School Swim Team for the upcoming season.
This decision also impacts the broader community. Throughout discussions regarding fall operations, the high school swim team served as a key component of keeping the pool open during the fall months. Without the team, it appears there will also be no fall season for public use, lessons, lap swim, or other community programs.
This is heartbreaking for the students who looked forward to competing, for incoming freshmen who hoped to join the team, and for the families and community members who value having access to the pool in the fall.
Since 2018, the swim team has provided students with opportunities to develop athletic skills, build friendships, learn discipline, and represent Lassen High School with pride. Its loss will be felt by many.
To every swimmer, coach, parent, volunteer, and supporter who advocated for this program: thank you. Your dedication, passion, and commitment to these students never went unnoticed.
While this chapter may be ending, we remain hopeful that future opportunities can be found to bring aquatic programs back to our students and community.
π Thank you for supporting these endeavors.
