Yesterday, Governor Jerry Brown's Office. signed Assembly Bill 949 which will classify "competitive" cheer as a sport in California. The CHSCDA would like send out a special thank you to Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez for spearheading this change and shining a spotlight on cheerleader safety!!
The California Interscholastic Federation will now work with the California Department of Education and experts in the high school cheerleading community to establish safety standards and policies. The California High School Cheer and Dance Association is excited to play a role in this process and looks forward to helping advance the sport of competitive cheerleading.
