My first win in a Legend car! 🏁

This weekend started off slow. I usually don’t make it to Friday practice, so that first practice/qualifying session is where I’m figuring out the car for the day. That’s a big part of why qualifying usually isn’t my strongest showing. Qualified 12th out of 16, then finished fifth out of five in my heat.

But I won my dash! My first win ever in a Legend, and that’s something I’ll remember for a long time. Finished 10th in the main, so there’s still work to do, but that win felt pretty damn good.

Our friend Shannon was helping out as an announcer and got to present me with the plaque for my first win, which made that moment even more special. Thank you for catching me crossing the finish line.

One of the best parts of the weekend was watching our racing family come together. Our friend Justin Gantt, who does so much for all of us racers, put his car backwards into the wall during qualifying. Six different racers jumped in to help get him back out for the race, donating their time, parts, and tools.

We all want to beat each other on the track, but we want everyone to have the chance to be out there. Seeing everyone show up for someone who gives so much to this sport deserves just as much celebration as anything that happened on the track. Our racing family is phenomenal, and I’m proud to be part of it.

I also want to thank Justin, Andrew and Ethan Rumsey, Lawrence, Kyle, Freddy, Patrick, and the Sansom team for their incredible sportsmanship this weekend. Kyle and Freddy deserve some extra recognition for keeping their composure in a frustrating situation. How we carry ourselves off the track matters too, and I respect how they handled themselves.

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors and partners who help keep the 58D on track!

Another solid night at Stockton 99.

We finished 4th in our heat race, 2nd in the dash, started 8th in the main, and drove our way up to a 6th place finish.

The biggest takeaway from the night was the speed. Thanks to the fresh tires from Scotty’s_Trucks, we picked up three tenths of a second over our previous pace. Our fastest lap ended up just 0.025 seconds off my all-time best at Stockton, proving we’re continuing to close the gap.

Remember, this car is entirely set up by a Phone app. 😉 I changed nothing other than the rubber and brake pads since last race.

It was also great seeing our whole group have a strong night. Justin drove an awesome race to finish 2nd. Barret and Ethan continue to improve every time they get behind the wheel of a Legend, and it’s been fun watching their progress.

And Lawrence… you’ve come a long way since getting rid of that late model and climbing into a real race car. 😂

One of the easiest things to overlook on a race car is wheel bearing preload.

Too tight and you create unnecessary heat and drag. Too loose and you risk premature wear, inconsistent handling, or even component failure.

That front left bearing spinning in the background isn’t the result of expensive parts or a magic trick. It’s the result of taking the time to set it correctly.

The little details don’t usually make headlines, but they absolutely add up over the course of a race. The drivers who consistently pay attention to the basics are usually the ones still fighting for positions at the end.

Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

Back home from Stockton 99 and I’d call that a successful night.

We had 19 Legends show up. We qualified 15th, finished 2nd in our heat race behind Lawrence, and brought the car home 13th in the main. With 18 of the 19 cars still running at the finish, every position had to be earned.

The biggest takeaway wasn’t the finishing position. This race was a proof of concept for LegendIQ.

We committed to every recommendation the app made, including geometry changes and a spring change. Other than normal crossweight adjustments throughout the night to fit my driving style and changing track conditions, we trusted the setup completely.

The result was roughly a 4 tenth improvement in lap time, and we did it on tires that are over five years old.

It was also great to see Ethan and Barret make their first starts in a Legend car. These cars have a learning curve, but both did a great job and we’re excited to see their progress.

Congratulations to Justin on his 4th place finish as well. Very well deserved.

Tonight was a proof of concept for LegendIQ.

For this race, we committed to running the setup exactly as the app recommended. Every geometry change, every value, and even a spring change were made exactly as suggested.

When we unloaded, the car was tighter than I prefer, but that’s part of racing. Track conditions change, and making crossweight adjustments throughout the night is completely normal. Other than adjusting cross to fit my driving style and the changing track, the car stayed exactly where the app put it.

The result?

We picked up roughly 4 tenths of a second.

And before anyone says it was the tires, we did it on tires that are over five years old.

What impressed me most wasn’t just the speed. The app identified a handling issue we’d been fighting, recommended changes I probably would not have tried on my own, and gave us a much better starting point than we’ve had before.

This wasn’t a back-to-back test with multiple setups. This was a real race night where we committed to the recommendations, gathered data, made normal trackside adjustments, and went faster.

As a driver, I’m excited about the performance.

As the developer, I’m excited because the concept worked.

Now it’s time to take what we learned and make LegendIQ even better.

Race week prep is done.

One thing I wanted to do before tomorrow’s race at Stockton was put LegendIQ to the test on my own car.

Normally, making geometry changes and changing springs would mean a lot of trial and error. This time I let the app analyze the setup and followed its recommendations. It identified geometry changes that needed to be made and even recommended a spring change.

The biggest issue I’ve been fighting is the violent snap the car would make when getting back into the throttle on corner exit. If you watched the video from the first race, you saw exactly what I’m talking about. According to the analysis, that behavior should be significantly reduced.

Tomorrow is the real test.

If the car is faster, more stable, and easier to drive, then it won’t just be a good night for the 58D. It’ll be proof that LegendIQ is doing exactly what it was built to do.

The scales are packed up. The trailer is loaded. Now we find out if the data was right.

Sponsor Opportunity Available

Due to a recent restructuring of a partner marketing program, our Oil and Lubricants category has become available for the remainder of the 2026 season.

This was an amicable change and we appreciate the support and relationship we had through that program. With the category now open, Erin Brandt Motorsports is actively seeking a new Oil and Lubricants Partner.

Our program competes in INEX Legends competition at tracks throughout Northern California while maintaining an active online presence through race recaps, behind the scenes content, educational content, sponsor spotlights, and community engagement initiatives.

Partnership opportunities include branding on the race car, social media promotion, event appearances, sponsor recognition across our content.

If your company manufactures or distributes motor oils, racing lubricants, additives, greases, or related products and would like to connect with racers, motorsports enthusiasts, mechanics, and automotive consumers, I would love to start a conversation.

For sponsorship inquiries, send a direct message or email [email protected].

LegendIQ is officially entering closed beta testing.

Over the past few months, I’ve been building a setup engineering app specifically for the Legend car community. Not a generic racing app. Not another setup calculator. An actual racer-focused tool built around real Legend car setup logic, track data, rulebooks, handling behavior, gearing, setup comparison, and driver education.

The goal was simple:
Build something that explains why the car reacts the way it does instead of just throwing numbers at people.

The app has not been publicly released yet. Closed TestFlight beta testing begins next week, and I’ll be sending invite codes individually.

Right now, I’m specifically looking for:
• European Legends drivers
• UK oval and circuit drivers
• Australian drivers
• Japanese series drivers
• Dirt and road course drivers
• Racers from series outside standard US asphalt oval competition

I want real feedback from different rulesets, tracks, engines, and driving styles around the world before the public release.

Everything is privacy-first.
No accounts.
No cloud storage required.
Your setup data stays on your device unless you choose to share it.

If you want to help shape the future of Legend car setup tools, send me a message.
