I am excited to announce that I am launching a new location of The Mayfly Project (TMP) here in State College, PA.
What is The Mayfly Project?
The Mayfly Project is a nonprofit organization that mentors youth in foster care through the sport of fly fishing. Our mission is to support children in foster care by helping them build confidence, find healing, and connect with the outdoors and their local waters.
What does the program involve?
Our program consists of five outings where participants will learn the fundamentals of fly fishing, environmental stewardship, and conservation while having fun catching fish alongside our team of volunteer mentors. We encourage foster parents, parents, group home staff, and caseworkers to attend these outings to help ensure that each child feels comfortable and supported.
On the final outing, each participant will receive their own fly-fishing equipment to take home, allowing them to continue enjoying the sport long after the program ends.
How can you help?
I'm simply asking you to help spread the word about The Mayfly Project within our community. We welcome any support we can get, whether through mentoring, donations, or sharing information about the program.
Even if you have no experience with fly fishing, there are many ways to contribute and make a meaningful impact. If you've ever wanted to learn how to fly fish, this is also a wonderful opportunity to get involved. You'll learn the basics of the sport while helping change a child's life.
These are children from our community, and there are currently more than 200 youth in foster care in the counties surrounding State College. Imagine the difference you could make by helping change a child's life, one fly at a time.
