If you really knew me, Part Two

Most people know that I am a relationship and intimacy coach, but here are a few other things about me that not everyone knows...

💚 I have two grown up daughters . Charlotte lives in Columbus and works as a fitness coach. Veronica lives in Marquette, MI and is studying nicrophorus burying beetles. They are both amazing human beings and I couldn't be more proud of them.

💚 I don't love going out to eat. Maybe my Mom is rubbing off on me? She also doesn't like going out to eat. I would rather save the money and cook my own food and eat exactly what I want to eat. There are exceptions to this, but mostly I get annoyed by food that is not prepared or presented up to my standards, and I am kind of cheap so I don't really want to pay what is actually required to get the quality of experience that I generally want. It's just easier to stay home, save the money and get what I want. This salmon and beet salad was a recent exception. Wow. 💦

💚 One more weird thing about me and food - I get stressed out by full refrigerators. I would rather have my refrigerator be kinda empty so that I don't worry as much about food going bad before I can eat it. Here's a pic of my current fridge sitch - and I just went grocery shopping. This is probably another area where my Mom is rubbing off on me. What's that saying about how we become our parents more and more?

You know that feeling of relief when you finally feel like someone is GETTING YOU?

My friend Lauren really got me, recently. I was in distress about something I had just experienced with another friend. And Lauren was able to name the need that was underneath it all "It sounds like you were just wanting to show up today and rest, Sarah." As I heard her words, I felt the tears coming in hot behind my eyes. Yes, that's exactly what I had been hoping for. And having her name it, I felt such a sense of relief. I no longer felt alone in my feelings.

That's the power of empathy. It makes all of our relationships tick. Empathy is the ability to be aware of the feelings and needs of another person, as well as ourselves. It sounds simple, but it actually can take skill and practice!

Join me tomorrow for one hour of empathy practice. We'll go over some principles and tips that can serve you in all of your relationships and then dive into practice.
