How To Properly Pull The Ball

Pullside backspin is the best result a hitter can get

Lots of players think that curveballs need to be hit oppo, but in reality, a nice middle middle curve is probably the best ball to pull in the air

If you can be on time for fastball, but slightly early on curves, that’s a great place to be. Consistent liners on heaters, then you naturally will do pullside damage on the curve.

Let the barrel release out front while the body stays over the plate 🔑

Great work here.

Fun is the purest performance cheat code

First you have to do the work. More focus, better process, daily consistent effort.

But then, when the performance comes, you must switch your mindset from “grind mode” to “play mode”

This is what Griffey could do best. Always seen with a smile. Playing with that childlike love for the game.

The fun and enjoyment of PLAY is what allows all your hard work and effort to show in your performance.

If you ever feel “off” and are not playing well… try this:

Make your only goal to show up to the field and OUT FUN EVERYONE. If you can have more fun than everyone else, regardless of your outcomes… in the end you win.

The whole point is to ENJOY your time as a baseball player. Don’t forget that.

A little weird, but it works

I catch myself saying these two feels very often during my sessions

“Pretend you’re hitting a bowling ball”
“Swing as if the ball isn’t even there”

Both of these are designed to get the player to trust their swing and stop trying to force contact

Usually when we try to force contact, it actually happens less. This is because the hands take over which creates bat path problems and prevents the barrel from getting on plane early.

If you feel pushy and trying to force contact, give these a try.

Simple feels are some of the most powerful tools a hitter can have. No drill, data, video needed. Just alter your mind to get your body to move the way you want.

Key Move For Consistent Backspin

Many hitters I see simply need to load better

The load sets up the whole rest of the swing. Usually, if we “pull off” during the turn, it’s a by product of never getting closed in the load.

I think this is where the “oppo approach” comes from. We want to load with direction to be able to handle outside pitches and offspeed moving away.

But then when we see it middle in and turn on it, we will hit it with pullside backspin (homers) rather than rolling it over.

Improving the load helps oppo adjustability AND pullside power at the same time. It’s a win win.

Try this out and watch how much better your ball flight gets.

Personal Feedback For College Remote Hitter

Our load tempo is so important to give ourselves the biggest window where we can be on time

Most times, nothing good will ever happen if we are late and rushed

We dont just need to start our load early, we need to start our forward move early, so that we can fire on time

Adjustability happens out front. Better to be early and give yourself a chance to be on time, then be late and have no shot.

Body control is king.

Read The Quote On Slide 2

This is an MLB scout saying that he can tell who the best players on the field will be before the game even starts

It’s body language, presence, projecting a calm confidence

The best players don’t just play the game well. They carry themselves differently at all times.

Power + Adjustability at the same time ⬇️

Here’s how to properly work behind the ball

The two common misses I see with hitters:

1- moving forward too much, lunging, disconnecting, then pushing the hands at it

This is working “at the ball” or “to the ball” and limits depth, margin of error, and the ability to create backspin consistently

2- no forward move (can be small, but need some), stuck back, then spinning backwards in the turn.

This is where hitters are almost too behind the ball, limits power because not getting back side through the swing, and limits adjustability on offspeed / away pitches.

Get forward, turn behind, while driving forward
