Another long week full of tests, scans, appointments, sweaty road trips, broken cars and long waits with my brave girl.
It is an exhausting out of body experience being at MDAnderson.
The paradoxical energy of hope and fear is hard to process or explain
It creates a sad but comforting sense of community.
We witness families coming together to care and support their loved ones.
We meet with a team of the best and brightest healthcare workers in the world and are comforted by their compassion, knowledge and dedication.
We share space with thousands of others who are traveling through the same unknown, frightening world of cancer.
We are all clinging to hope as we face the fears, the pain, the waiting, and the brutal reality that life can change irrevocably with one test, one scan, one sentence.
THANKFULLY, this is the first time in 3 years since Abbie’s diagnosis with medullary thyroid cancer metastasis, pheochromocytoma, and most recently, neuroendocrine cancer of pancreas/small intestine that we have had relatively “uneventful”, positive results! And we are thrilled ! It is hard to believe but we will gladly take it.
None of the spots in her thyroid, lungs, lymph nodes, liver, pancreas or small intestine showed significant growth and no new spots of concern were identified.
Blood tests were not as great, but for now, her team feels no action is needed aside from daily medications and repeat testing in 6 months.
We are beyond grateful for all of the prayers, texts, messages, surprise venmo treats, flowers and support from friends and family. Every single text/message/call/prayer is invaluable and more helpful than you will ever know.
Please keep the prayers coming!
