Matt Owen

Matt Owen Matt Owen is the owner and founder of Project Deliverance in St. Louis, Missouri. Louis.

He graduated from Lindenwood University with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and went on to earn a Masters of Science in Human Performance also from Lindenwood. Matt was a four year varsity letterman and team captain on the Lindenwood Lions Track & Field team. He also spent two years during graduate school training, counseling, and preparing short and long sprinters for competition in a

ddition to managing Project Deliverance. Although Matt's collegiate track and field career ended in May of 2010, he continues to train hard and compete in open track meets specializing in the short sprints and long jump events as well as the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Each season, Matt spends his winter and spring months competing and challenging himself against the best collegiate and professional sprinters and jumpers in the Midwest. During the spring semester of his freshman year of college, Matt discovered Gym Jones. The project itself resonated so strongly with him that it changed the direction of his college education, training, and the prospect of life after college and athletics. That following summer, Matt started Project Deliverance out of his parent's garage as a way to stay in shape for the upcoming track season. He spent most of the summer scraping together equipment, studying the Gym Jones training calendar, and training a handful of his close friends out of the garage. In 2008, Matt attended his first seminar at Gym Jones and has since spent a significant amount of time at the gym learning and developing his set of skills as a trainer, coach, and athlete. Since his first days in the gym, Matt has attended, completed, as well as assisted at the Fundamentals, Intermediate, and Advanced seminars at Gym Jones. In order to complete his undergraduate degree at Lindenwood, Matt was privledged to become the first student intern at Gym Jones. In that three week period, he had the opportunity to learn, work, and train alongside Bobby Maximus and the other trainers at Gym Jones. The culmination of many years of work, education, and development has earned Matt the opportunity to be considered a Gym Jones disciple and fully certified instructor. Since it's founding in 2007, Project Deliverance has moved to a warehouse location in the South City area of St. The gym itself specializes in training athletes of all calibers as well as those who are willing to suffer in order to improve as a result. Project Deliverance offers group, one on one, and also remote training and coaching solutions. As a trainer and coach, Matt has extensive experience in the development of speed, power, power endurance, and running technique on and off of the track but is also just as capable of training endurance athletes or those who are just training for general physical preparedness.

Stepped back on the platform for the first time in a few years the weekend before last. Felt great to hit some lifts, put a total together, bring home some hardware, and get qualified for the National Meets. Huge Thanks for putting on an amazing meet at their new gym. Excited for what’s to come!
/
Big Shout out to my support team for the push on the big platform and help in the back room! 🙏👊

With these sessions, we usually implement three different phases of work and finish with a tough conditioning phase. This is great supportive work for the metabolic energy systems as well as the specific muscles that will be used in the fight itself.

I used to share a lot more on here about 8-10 years ago. Posts about training philosophy, theory, and just random stuff that would pop into my brain during hard training sessions. Every now and then, I’ll see past posts from that era pop into my feed and I’ll read those captions. I hate some of ‘em, like or even love some of ‘em, and re-learn some things from some of ‘em.
/
Long story short, I spent a lot of energy with over the last 2 years getting the gym set up and settled into it’s current space, and I turned my attention inward, to conserve mental energy for that task that had to be done. It’s been hard to turn that switch the other way and get back to sharing meaningful content and captions, but I’m back in that mode.
/
I see things differently now, program training differently, approach hard things differently and more intelligently, and am excited to share more of that on a regular basis with every one of you.

Today, we’re launching an online training team through for our athletes training for MMA / BJJ. We have a large roster of athletes who train at many gyms around the St. Louis Area as well as throughout the Midwest, and we recognize the need to be able to scale our programming outside of our physical location in South City.
/
What to expect from the programming? The training itself is programmed out for 6-7 sessions a week and is geared toward developing all the base strength, power, conditioning, and injury prevention needed to win fights. The training itself is concurrent and develops and trains all these fitness characteristics at the same time. The workouts are scaleable and only require some basic dumbbells for ex*****on.
/
What else is included? I have already provided some basic weight cutting knowledge and water loading protocols on the message boards. This will always be accessible to members who join the team. As always, I will be available for Q&A regarding weight cuts, methodology, programming, and scheduling throughout the week.
/
How much? $30 / month. That’s a dollar a day. New programming will be added every Sunday morning or as early as Friday, the week before. Our goal is to provide huge value for the fighters in our network and create a platform where everyone can interact, talk shop, and push each other week to week.

Passion directly translates from Latin roots like pati and passio, meaning “to suffer” or “suffering,” so its core meaning involves enduring hardship, discomfort, or sacrifice for something meaningful, not just fleeting pleasure. True passion is characterized by resilience, perseverance, and a willingness to undergo challenges (like hard work, setbacks, or rejection) because the goal is deeply important, linking struggle with purpose and lasting fulfillment.
/
Every year I’m more and more grateful for the slow building course and process as we continue to build and grow . We are home to a large contingent of passionate people. As we head into 2026, I want you all to remember that lasting joy is found in the process, the training, the little things, and who you become while in pursuit of your goal rather than in solely the destination and end result itself. Make no mistake - we want to win - and win now. We are fierce competitors. But we are competitors who continue to evolve, learn, and grow as we fiercely compete and test ourselves again and again.
