The Missouri Blood Trackers Association and Gary Blessing sure know how to make a guy feel special.

Tom Monehan hand-delivered this incredible piece of artwork honoring my girl, Dixie. It’s hard to believe someone can take a simple piece of wood and turn it into something this beautiful. Gary’s craftsmanship is truly second to none. It was completely unexpected, and I can’t begin to express how much it means to me.

For those who don’t know, Dixie passed away on April 28, and losing her hit me harder than I ever imagined. We spent countless hours together around the farm and in the woods. She wasn’t just my tracking dog—she was my shadow, my partner, and one of my best friends.

Gary also included a handwritten letter describing the first—and only—time he got to watch Dixie work in person. Reading his words reminded me just how special she truly was. To know that others saw in her what I was fortunate enough to witness every day is incredibly humbling.

Dixie was one of a kind. She had the heart, the soul, the grit, and a work ethic that never quit. She gave everything she had on every track, and I would’ve followed her anywhere.

Thank you, Gary Blessing, Tom Monehan, Mark Maniaci and everyone with the Missouri Blood Trackers Association for this unforgettable gift. It will always have a special place in my home and in my heart. More importantly, thank you for helping keep Dixie’s memory alive. She may be gone, but she’ll never be forgotten.

My buddy Joshua Gatlin Gunn ordered some patches to put on his dog’s vests to honor Dixie’s memory. What I didn’t know is that he got me one too. I put the patch on my tracking vest as soon as I got home with it. Maybe she’ll come visit us in the woods.

Dixie passed away in April and I completely forgot I had this video of her on my go pro from a training day we had at Bush Wildlife. This would have been 2019 or 20, making her 2 or 3 years old. I believe she was my once in a lifetime dog. I hope Whiskers is up to the challenge. It's a long video if you care to watch.

I had zero intention of testing Whiskers this weekend, testing wasn’t even on my radar. An opportunity presented itself so we took the test. The line ended up being roughly 17 hours old and in 90° heat. We had to work together as a team to figure out one turn, but other than that Whisker’s did all the work and I couldn’t be more proud of this dog today!

The Missouri Blood Trackers Symposium is still open for enrollment. We have UBT1 and UBT2 testing spots available. Had a great time today testing Declan’s dog Honey with Marissa Rosentreter. Joshua Gatlin Gunn tagged along to watch. Honey crushed this UBT 1 test with zero call backs at 5 months old! She’s an easy dog to read and she knows when she’s off the line. She would even stop and indicate the blood she found. Now if we could just train Declan to go look at what she’s trying to show him 🤣🤣. Together they will put a lot of deer on the tailgate. Thanks again for allowing me the opportunity to watch Honey work.
