8 years ago, Mr. Vern and his daughter Theresa, walked into Shudo Kan Karate Club. Sporting a Bahama shirt and a rainbow head band, respectively, father and daughter came to a dojo recommended by the word of a good friend, as the best of referrals always are.
They were looking for a place where both could learn martial arts and, in the process, gain the self-confidence to thrive in schools that were unkind to those who may not have fit in.
What they found was more than a dojo. They found another family. They found a place that both encouraged and pushed them further than they thought they could go. And in the process, not only found the self-confidence they were seeking, but a strength neither thought they possessed.
Circumstances beyond her control forced Theresa to step away from her journey. Mr. Vern continued, in her name, and for as much her as himself. Today, he has the incredible and humbling privilege to help others find the strength and confidence he found, and to pass along the skills and knowledge that others passed to him.
