I have had this conversation so many times in the past month and I dont understand why people dont understand how this all works together and how its important to treat everything as a whole and not just treat the issue.

Laminitis: What Is It and How Can Massage Help?

Laminitis is inflammation and damage to the laminae, the structures inside the hoof that attach the coffin bone to the hoof wall. When these structures become damaged, the connection weakens, causing pain and, in severe cases, rotation or sinking of the coffin bone (founder).

Laminitis can be triggered by:

* High sugar or starch intake (grass, grain, sweet feeds)

*Insulin resistance or Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS)

*PPID (Cushing's Disease)

*Severe illness or infection

*Excessive weight-bearing due to injury in another limb

One thing I always tell people is that laminitis is often a symptom of a larger issue, not the actual problem itself. But, yes it can start in the hoof first and cause issues in the body. It can go either way.

How Massage Can Help?

Massage does not cure laminitis, but it can be a valuable part of the horse's management plan.
When a horse's feet hurt, they change how they stand and move to avoid pain. This often leads to tight shoulders, neck muscles, back muscles, hips, and the thoracic sling. Over time, the entire body begins compensating.

Massage can help:
✔ Improve circulation to muscles and soft tissues
✔ Reduce muscle tension and compensation patterns
✔ Improve range of motion and comfort
✔ Support relaxation and overall well-being

Think of it as a domino effect: the feet hurt, the body compensates, and soon the whole horse is uncomfortable. While we can't massage away damaged laminae, we can help support the rest of the body so the horse can move more comfortably during recovery while the farrier does their job to help the feet.

Healthy feet are important, but don't forget there's an entire horse attached to them. 🐴❤️

✨ Real Results. Real Conversations. Real Progress. ✨

Tired of spending 1,000 of dollars and not getting any answers on what's going on with your horse?

Do you want to understand why you are not getting the results you want and how you can get them.

These sessions are some of my favorite work—because when you really see the body, everything starts to make sense.

💡 Eyeballing sessions are for you if:

• You’re a horse owner trying to understand why your horse is moving the way they are
• You feel stuck in your horse’s rehab process
• You’re a bodyworker struggling with a client and want a second set of experienced eyes
• You want clarity on mechanics, patterns, and where to focus your work

🐴 What I cover in a phone consultation, or face to face conversation:

• Full head-to-toe body mechanics
• Movement patterns & compensation chains
• Where pain may be originating vs. where it’s showing up
• Rehab strategies & corrective focus
• A clear, realistic plan moving forward

📞 Investment:
• $150 for a 2-hour in-depth phone consultation
• We set a plan, implement it, and regroup in 2 weeks
• Follow-up sessions: $85/hour

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start understanding the body, this is for you.

📩 Message me to schedule an eyeballing session

🎓 Or ask about joining the PK Rehab Eyeballing Class if you want to learn how to do this skill yourself.

Clarity changes everything.

I love messages like these.

When your feeling like your at a stand still and you need to be inspired by something, a client, sends you a message like this. They let you know , you are still doing great work and making horses feel better.

Any practitioner, who has been doing this for a while, goes through phases of wondering if you're still on the right path. Really any equine job is not for the faint of heart. You have to be willing to push ,educate ,advertise, as much as you're capable of. What you put into is what you get out.

So I am always greatful to the clients / students who send me messages like this. Who remind me me of why I do my job and who never give up on me. I have changed a lot and I mean a lot of horses ,clients and students lives with what I do and I hope I can continue to do so in the future.

Thank you

I need some class ideas 👀🐴
What is a class that you have not seen out there yet that you would LOVE to take in the equine field?

If it’s something I have knowledge about, I can make the class happen 🙌

So throw me some ideas below ⬇️ and who knows… I might already have it in the works 😉

I’m always looking to create classes that actually help people understand the horse better, not just follow trends. So let’s hear it! 🐎✨

Went from working on 17 hand horses to 2 cute ponies today.

One I was putting to sleep standing up and the other I was putting to sleep on the ground lol

In the first picture I am sitting on a garden stool. My leg is hiding it. I cannot hold a squat for that long 😂.

This is Happy

For the ones that dont know him… you will find out he’s not the “stand still and relax” type—especially around new people. Very anxious, very aware, always thinking about his next move.
His owner has been doing all the right things—working on softening his nose, riding him through it, just trying to help him settle and feel safe in his own body. But lately he started getting a little reactive during tacking up, so she reached out.

So I came out today.
First thing she says to me—
“He might dance around in the cross ties… just be ready.”
Fair enough… I like a heads up 😅
But here’s the thing… we didn’t even need to go there.

Once we got him out and I started working on his body, everything started to make sense. He had soreness through his back, into his hips, and right along that girth area—which she also mentioned he’s been a little cinchy. So nothing he was doing was “bad behavior”… it all lined up.

We worked through those areas, let his body start to release, and then…
You’ll see it in the video.
Standing. Still, Head low, Eyes soft

Honestly… he was about asleep until I hit record 🤣

Same horse. Different feeling in his body.
This is why I always say—before we label it as a training issue, we need to look at what the horse is physically dealing with. His owner did just that.
They can only tolerate so much before they start talking back.

Happy is a very sweet horse… he just needed someone to listen to what his body was saying.
And today, he finally got to relax.
