Twenty-five years ago today, 343 members of the FDNY walked into unimaginable danger with one purpose in mind: to save as many lives as they possibly could. They climbed countless stairs, knowing the risks they faced. They ran toward the chaos while thousands of others were desperately trying to escape it. They carried with them an extraordinary sense of courage, duty, compassion, and selflessness—a willingness to place the lives of complete strangers ahead of their own.
Those 343 heroes were so much more than a number. They were sons, fathers, husbands, brothers, friends, coworkers, and loved ones. They had families waiting for them to come home—families whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001.
Today, I ask everyone to take a moment to remember them and reflect on the incredible bravery they displayed in their final moments. Our thoughts and prayers remain with their families, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone who continues to carry the pain and memories of that tragic day. Also remember the many firefighters and first responders who have passed away in the years since as a result of illnesses connected to the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. Their sacrifice did not end when the smoke cleared, and neither should our remembrance of them.
May their courage never be forgotten. May their sacrifices never be taken for granted. May their names and stories continue to be spoken and remembered for generations to come. May they rest in peace.
We will never forget.
Hoosier Wrestling Alliance would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to firefighters everywhere who serve, protect, and make a difference in their communities every single day. So much of what you do happens without recognition or praise, yet you continue to answer the call whenever others are in need.
Your courage, dedication, and service do not go unnoticed. To every firefighter who puts on the uniform and stands ready to help others, thank you for everything you do 🚒 👨🚒👩🚒
