I was thinking about this the other day. If Flow is a state of being completely engaged and present in the moment, than almost everything we do is with the purpose of CHASING FLOW.
We want the work that we do to be engaging and meaningful, the kind of work that makes time fly. That's Flow.
We want our relationships to be with people that we feel a deep connection to, like we share the same energy. That's Flow.
We choose activities and hobbies that take over our minds and require our entire focus. Why do we dance, write, make music, and create art? Why do we exercise? We're chasing Flow.
Why do we pray, meditate and seek out spiritual experiences? To feel a connection to something greater than ourselves. A connection to Flow.
On the darker side of things, why do we drink, smoke w**d, use other substances, spend hours watching TV or playing video games, or any other addiction really? Why do we engage in activities that we know are bad for us yet do them anyway? To escape from reality, forget the past and stop worrying about the future. These things provide a version of Flow.
There are many different versions of Flow. Some are good, some are bad. But we have the choice to chase the good. We can create or seek out powerful experiences that engage our body, mind and soul.
Because any way you look at it, we are all CHASING FLOW.
