We spy some SGF Clay Target alumni on the SUNY Adirondack
Team. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the SUNY Adirondack Clay Target Team for earning a second-place finish at the New York State Regional Trap Championship on May 2, under the direction of Professor Luke Musto. The tournament, hosted by Finger Lakes Community College, was held at the Shortsville Rod and Gun Club. SUNY Adirondack posted a team score of 397, finishing behind Finger Lakes Community College, which won the event with a score of 460.

The Timberwolves brought 10 shooters to the competition, the most of any collegiate program represented. Leading the team was Walter Miller (82), who capped his season as SUNY Adirondack’s top shooter. Miller’s performance highlights a remarkable rise; he had never handled a firearm prior to joining the program in Fall 2022. “To go from never shooting to becoming our top performer in just over a year speaks to Walter’s work ethic and focus,” said head coach Luke Musto. Strong supporting scores came from Dylan Studnicky (80) and Riley Smith (79), with Andrew Hull (78) and John Wolf (78) contributing to a balanced team effort. Additional SUNY Adirondack competitors included Zac Harrington, Nolan Jacox, Nick Giambrone, Samual Brachfeld, and Kevin Tran.

Finger Lakes also produced the top individual shooter, Andrew Goodwin, who posted a meet-best score of 98. With one week remaining in the season, SUNY Adirondack currently leads the USA Collegiate Clay Target Conference 1A, underscoring the program’s continued growth and competitiveness.

It was a bit windy, but still a great day for the first practice round of the season. Lots of newcomers to the team this year, which is at 20+ members again. Thanks to the Hudson Falls Fish & Game Club, Mr. George Gedney, the SROs, Coach Music and Coach Hayes, who make it possible for our team to have a fun and safe season!

Reminder to the students and families: Club photos will be Thursday, Dec 11th at 3pm in the Library. This is the only opportunity to be in the team photo for the yearbook! If you’ve got SGF Clay Target shirts, hats or hoodies….wear them!

Best of luck to all our SGF kiddos at the Trap State Tournament of the New York State High School Clay Target League. Dylan Studnicky finished on top of the 2A class with his season average of 23.3 and was named to the All-State team! Congratulations!
