This conversation hit harder emotionally than I expected.

Yesterday’s webinar was bigger than task management systems.

Today’s the day.

And honestly… I’ve been thinking a lot about the accounting firm owners who are going to hear this conversation today and realize:

“It’s not just me.”

Because so many owners are silently carrying:
the stress…
the pressure…
the mental overload…
the constant interruptions…
and the emotional weight of holding everything together…

Without fully realizing how operationally dependent the business has become on them.

And after a while, it just starts feeling normal.

Honestly… I thought it was normal too.

But I don’t think accounting firms were ever supposed to operate this heavily.

And I don’t think owners were ever supposed to carry all of this mentally alone.

Tomorrow’s webinar is not really about task management systems.

That’s just the surface conversation.

What we’re actually talking about is this:

Because honestly… I don’t think most owners set out to build a business that emotionally consumes them.

But slowly over time, the owner becomes:
the reminder system…
the approval process…
the follow-up…
the communication bridge…
the workflow…
and the operational memory for the entire firm.

And eventually even simple things start feeling heavy.

Questions never stop.
Interruptions become normal.
Delegation feels stressful instead of relieving.

And even with a team in place…
the owner still feels mentally responsible for everything.

I know that feeling because I lived it.

I know what it’s like to physically leave work…
but mentally never actually leave.

And I also know what it’s like to finally realize:
this isn’t just a workload problem.

It’s an operational clarity problem.

That realization changed everything for my business.

Because once we stopped trying to just “work harder” and started looking at:

One of the biggest things I see inside firms is this:

Owners expect the team to know priorities and expectations that were never actually operationally clarified.

For example:
firms will have task management systems in place…

but nothing clearly shows:
what’s actually urgent
what “done” truly means
or how work should move operationally across the team

So work gets kicked back and forth constantly.
I call it “ping pong ball.”

And eventually the owner starts feeling like:
“It’s just easier if I do it myself.”

That’s exhausting.

And honestly… I think a lot of firm owners need this conversation more than they realize.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see in accounting firms is that delegation is about getting work off the owner's plate.

It's not.
Great delegation builds confidence.

It creates ownership.
It helps people grow into leadership.

But that only happens when the business creates enough clarity for people to succeed without constantly coming back to the owner.

Otherwise delegation becomes:
more questions,
more follow-up,
and more frustration.

That's one of the biggest conversations we're having on June 9th.

who owns it,
or what's falling behind...

The owner becomes the visibility system.
And that's exhausting.

Visibility creates confidence.

Confidence creates ownership.

Ownership creates growth.

Years ago, my team used to constantly ask:

“What do you want me to work on today?”

And honestly… at the time, I didn’t realize how big of a problem that actually was.

Because in my mind, I was just trying to keep things moving.

But eventually I realized something painful:

The business had become dependent on me for:
direction…
visibility…
prioritization…
and decision-making.

Everything flowed through me.

So every day felt reactive.

The team waited for direction.
Interruptions never stopped.
I felt overwhelmed.
And mentally, I never felt like I could fully step away.

That’s exhausting.

And honestly… I think many accounting firm owners are operating this way right now without even realizing how much pressure it’s creating.

Because eventually:
the owner loses peace…
the team loses confidence…
the business loses operational clarity…
and somewhere along the way, the owner loses the reason they started the business in the first place.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I became passionate about systems and workflow.

Not because I love software.

If you ask my team, they’ll tell you that’s definitely not my thing. 😂

But because I know what it feels like when the business completely lives inside the owner’s head.
