A handful of Social Circle high school wrestlers competed in the Backyard Brawl in Atlanta this weekend. This tournament drew some outstanding wrestlers from all over the country. ⭕️🔥

Upcoming Freshman Huck McLaulin competed on the MS Backyard Brawlers team that placed 2nd.
Upcoming Sophomore Walker Woodard and upcoming Senior Daniel Passmore competed on the HS Backyard Brawlers team that placed 3rd.
Upcoming Seniors Gable and Cohen Hargrove wrestled on a HS Morris Fitness team that won the tournament. 🥇🏆

There’s something about wrestling boys.

Maybe it’s the countless hours spent in the hot, unforgiving wrestling room, drilling the same move over and over until muscle memory kicks in. Maybe it’s the miles they run, the weight they cut, the meals they pass up, and the sacrifices they make that no one ever sees.

Maybe it’s something that can only be felt deep in your heart as you watch them walk to the center circle, shake hands with their opponent, and battle with everything they have. There are no teammates to hide behind. No timeouts to catch their breath. No one to blame and no one to bail them out. Just six minutes, one opponent, and every ounce of heart they have.

Maybe it’s the bruises, busted lips, black eyes, sore shoulders, and aching knees they wear like badges of honor. Maybe it’s the discipline they build by showing up every single day even when they’re exhausted, frustrated, or defeated.

Maybe it’s when they raise their hand or quietly walk off the mat knowing they’ll be back to work tomorrow.

Because wrestling doesn’t just build champions. It builds young men who know how to work when no one is watching, stay humble in victory, stand tall in defeat, and keep fighting when life gets hard.

There’s something about wrestling boys.

Another SC wrestler is hitting the road today. ✈️

Rising senior James Sievers is headed to Fargo, North Dakota for a month of work. He will compete at the Fargo National Tournament before continuing his training at North Dakota State University for the remainder of the month.

From one of the biggest stages in high school wrestling to a Division I room, James will be putting in the work.
