You’re definitely not alone—limiting beliefs are more common than you might think. They’re those sneaky, internal dialogues that stop us from taking action, often whispering things like “I’m not good enough,” or “I’ll never get there.” But guess what? Most of these beliefs aren’t even based on truth.
So, what exactly are limiting beliefs? They’re those mental barriers we build up over time, often rooted in past experiences, societal conditioning, or fear of failure. And when we buy into them, they keep us playing small.
🚫 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲:
◾ “𝗜’𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵.” You doubt your own abilities or worth, even when all the evidence says otherwise.
◾ “𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.” This is the classic excuse to avoid growth. We say we’re too busy, but in reality, fear is what’s keeping us from trying.
◾ “𝗜’𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝗳 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝘆.” This fear of failure stops us before we even start. We assume failure means we’re not capable, instead of seeing it as a stepping stone.
But here’s the thing—limiting beliefs can be rewired. It’s not about ignoring them, but about reshaping how we respond when they show up. Let's dig into some practical, actionable ways to break through those mental walls.
🚀 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟰 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀:
1️⃣ 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲Ask yourself: Where is this belief coming from? Is it based on facts or just fears? Often, our limiting beliefs are built on faulty logic. Try this: write down your limiting belief and then counter it with 3 pieces of evidence that prove it wrong. For example, if you’re telling yourself “I’m not qualified,” list out past achievements or skills that show you’re more than capable.

We’ve all heard about visualization, but here’s a new approach: instead of just picturing success, visualize yourself tackling obstacles head-on. Imagine how you’d respond to setbacks and see yourself pushing through them. This helps rewire your brain to expect challenges—and beat them—rather than avoid them.
3️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁
Limiting beliefs often come from a scarcity mindset—thinking there’s not enough time, resources, or opportunities. Start practicing daily abundance affirmations like “I have everything I need to succeed” or “There’s more than enough time to achieve my goals.” The more you focus on what’s possible, the less room there is for limiting thoughts.
4️⃣ 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵
This might sound out there, but it works! Turn overcoming your limiting beliefs into a game. Create a point system for every small action you take towards pushing past those mental blocks. For example, 10 points for every time you say “yes” to something that scares you or 20 points for every new skill you learn. Track your progress and reward yourself when you hit milestones.
💡𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲? 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘂𝗽:
◾ 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀
Sounds weird, right? But seriously—give your limiting belief a name or a character. When it pops up, have a conversation with it: “Hey, ‘Doubtful Dave,’ thanks for your input, but I’m going to do this anyway!” This technique helps create distance between you and the belief, making it easier to dismiss.
◾ 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 ‘𝟱-𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲’
This one’s a game-changer: whenever you feel a limiting belief creeping in and stopping you from taking action, count down from 5, and then move! This comes from Mel Robbins’ technique that teaches you to beat hesitation by acting before fear kicks in.
◾ 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸
Instead of fearing failure, reframe it as a tool for growth. Every time you try and fail, you learn something new. Start by asking yourself: What’s the worst that could happen? Nine times out of ten, the outcome isn’t as catastrophic as you imagine, and the real learning happens through the trying.
🔥 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁
Remember, limiting beliefs aren’t facts—they’re just stories we tell ourselves. The power lies in changing the narrative. When you challenge, reframe, and act, you start shifting those old beliefs into empowering ones.
