Some weekend highlights because they were just too good not to share!
Team Hitting:
-Team batting average .365 against girls topping 60+ mph
-The girls recorded 65 hits, 53 1B, 9 2B, 3 3B
-44 runs scored in 9 games
-The girls had an impressive amount of hits when down in the count with 2 strikes. They put up tons of high-quality at bats.
Individual Hitting:
-Nava ( #8) led the team with a tournament avg. of .579, racking up 11 hits (6 1B, 4 2B, 1 3B)
-Harper ( #5), Vivienne ( #15), and Eleanor ( #11) also led the charge, hitting .526, .476, and .474 respectively.
-Lydia ( #6), Lila ( #1), Emma ( #14), Ava ( #12), and Anna Lynn ( #13) each came through with clutch RBIs.
Pitching:
This is the first tournament to challenge our staff at this level game for game, batter for batter. The amount of depth and power they had to navigate with each opponent required gritty performances. In 35 innings, they gave up 30 ER and had 26 K, 12 K-L. Lydia ( #6) came in to save in two important situations, doing some damage control. Anna Lynn ( #13) put her team in position to win and got the W in the championship.
Catcher appreciation!
Ava ( #12) caught 7.5 of 9 games, 5 back-to-back games on Sunday. She had one caught stealing, the first batter reached in the first game. Word got out because no one really tried again! She also had a ridiculous play at the plate in a crucial moment of the championship. Most importantly, she never complained and led vocally the entire tournament.
Web gems:
We threw girls out at the plate and a couple trying to take extra bases on hits to the outfield. We turned a double play. We made a sliding catch in right and another one that took Emma ( #14) into the fence. Lila ( #1) had a great day at first, picking throws and getting hard grounders headed for the hole. As always, Riley Mc ( #2) held down the middle infield.
