Meet Our New Assistant Coach - Alex Hanson

Originally from Iowa, Coach Hanson has deep roots in the Sioux Falls wrestling community. He began wrestling in 7th grade at Edison Middle School before going on to wrestle varsity all four years at Lincoln High School, where he served as team captain his senior year.

After high school, Alex spent a season coaching wrestling at Ben Reifel Middle School. He never intended to step away from coaching, but life had other plans. Now, he’s excited for the opportunity to get back in the room and give back to the sport as an assistant with our Washington Girls Wrestling program!

For Alex, coaching is about more than developing wrestlers on the mat. He hopes to reinforce the fortitude and grit that wrestling builds—qualities athletes can carry with them long after their competitive careers are over.

Outside of wrestling, Alex and his wife, Kati, stay busy with their three kids, two dogs, four cats, and a bearded dragon. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, woodworking, and learning new skills and trades.

We are excited to have him part of the team! 💪🏽

Team South Dakota showed up this weekend at the Northern Plains Regional Championships in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. From the youngest divisions through Juniors, SDUSAW athletes competed with toughness, confidence, and grit against some of the best competition in the region.

Highlights from the weekend:
• 8 Champions
• 10 Runner-Up finishes
• 7 Third-place finishes
• 46 Total Placers
• 19 Fargo Auto Qualifiers

The hard work is paying off, and momentum continues building toward Fargo. Proud of every athlete, coach, and family representing South Dakota this weekend.
