Hall of Fame Spotlight
Fred Hecker (Sioux Falls Washington - 1957)
Induction Year - 2016
In the Class A state tournament in 1955, Fred Hecker scored 20 points in the championship game to lead Washington Boys Basketball past Aberdeen 67-50. The talented sophomore was just getting started.
Hecker and the Warriors would return to the finals of the state tourney the next two seasons. Washington defeated Rapid City 55-53 to claim the championship again under Coach Wally Diehl in 1956. The Warriors finished with a 21-4 record. Then in 1957, during Hecker’s senior season, the Warriors fell to Belle Fourche 53-40 in the title game and wound up 21-3.
Ara Parseghian recruited Hecker to play football at Northwestern University of the Big Ten Conference. Hecker later transferred to Augustana University to finish his career as a fullback and defensive end for Coach Bob Burns.

Hall of Fame Spotlight
Amy (Allard) Carmody (Jefferson - 1982)
Induction Year - 2016
Winning was an established tradition for the Jefferson High School girls basketball program from 1975-85.
The Hawkettes won the Class B state championship in 1975 during the first year of sanctioned state tournaments. They also reigned in 1978, 1979 and 1980. South Dakota switched to three classes in 1985 and that season Jefferson claimed the Class A title for its fifth state championship in 11 years.
Amy (Allard) Carmody was an integral part of the dynasty. She was selected to the all-state team two years and as a senior averaged 24 points per game.
Creighton University recruited Carmody. There she played for Coach Bruce Rasmussen. Carmody earned four letters and as a senior in 1986, when the Bluejays went 20-8, she scored 12 points per game.

Hall of Fame Spotlight
Steve Jansa (Sioux Falls O’Gorman - 1964)
Induction Year - 2016
For parts of four decades the Catholic state tournament was an important part of the basketball landscape in South Dakota.
The first tournament was held in 1937. The last was in 1964 and Steve Jansa made sure that Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School went out a winner. There were 11 teams in the final tournament at the Sioux Falls Coliseum. Jansa, a standout senior, powered O’Gorman to the championship. The Knights defeated Mitchell Notre Dame 54-50 in the finals.
Leaving the Knights for competition in the Missouri Valley Conference, the 6-foot-7 Jansa was a valuable forward playing for Creighton University. The Bluejays were coached by John “Red” McManus. Jansa saw action in 75 career games for Creighton and totaled 427 points and 322 rebounds.

Melissa (Olson) Guebert (Sioux Falls Lincoln - 1983)
Induction Year - 2016
The first basketball player in Augustana University history to reach 2,000 career points first displayed her excellence at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School.
Melissa (Olson) Guebert averaged 19.2 points and eight rebounds per game for the Patriots as a senior.
A 5-foot-11 guard, Guebert scored 2,001 points for Augustana Women's Basketball. She set a school record when she averaged 23.8 points per game as a junior to finish fourth nationally in NCAA Division II.

Hall of Fame Spotlight
Roger Faber (Canistota - 1958)
Induction Year - 2016
Faber powered Canistota to the 1958 Class B boys basketball championship, earning all-state first-team honors in the process. His collegiate choice was the University of South Dakota. There he became an all-time South Dakota Men's Basketball great playing for Coach Dwane Clodfelter. A smooth 6-foot-5 sharpshooter, Faber spent time at both forward and center. He was selected to the all-North Central Conference team in 1960, 1961 and 1962. Faber graduated as USD’s career scoring leader with 1,160 points, averaging 16.8 per game.

Hall of Fame Spotlight
Dale Hall (Ravinia - 1954)
Induction Year - 2016
Dale Hall led a team without a true home court to the championship game of the Class B state tournament in 1953. Ravinia had a population of about 150 and the Ravinia High School gym was small. During the time Hall was a junior and senior the Bears traveled to play their home games in the larger gym at nearby Lake Andes.
Hall averaged 23.9 points per game as a junior when Ravinia went 25-4. Hall concluded his Ravinia career a year later by netting 27.7 points per game on a team that went 19-6.
