This club provides young athletes an opportunity to participate in a great sport that is as fun as it is interesting. In wrestling, everyone participates. There is no standing around at practice, no waiting for playing time, and no coaching decisions. Everyone is eligible to compete in practices and tournaments and reach their full individual potential. In the spring of 1995, Hard Rock wrestling c
lub fully opened up its’ doors to the younger age groups of the Golden Strip area. During that first year of letting elementary kids into the program, the three youngest in the program were a six year old and two five year olds. That six year old was named David Acosta, who went on to graduate from Hillcrest High School after placing three times in the state meet and went on to wrestle and graduate at The Citadel. Those two five year olds were named Bo Martin and Kasey Bennett. Bo graduated from Hillcrest after being a two year starter and winning just under 100 matches in his career. Kasey graduated from Hillcrest in the top 10 all time in wins and is also a graduate of Clemson University. We are very proud of the success that our club has had over the years and even more proud of the relationships we have built with kids over the years. Many of our younger wrestlers have gone on to do great things at JL Mann, Woodmont, and Mauldin. This season the team will be coached by several coaches and former wrestlers. The coaches will assist in coaching at the tournaments while providing encouragement to our young wrestlers in achieving their goals. They will emphasize a fun environment, have your kids excited about practice each night, all while teaching them the sport of wrestling. This season the team will practice 3 nights a week at Hillcrest High School auxiliary gym. The cost of the club this year will be $75 per wrestler. This fee will cover your SCYWA card, coaches, end of the season party and other events taking place during the season. THIS IS NOT JUST A recreation team or travel team that you will have one season with. Also, this sport is not just for boys. Girls wrestling is making a name for itself right now. This is a chance to get involved in a successful program and get a head start in building a relationship in the best wrestling program in the state.
