I like baits that make me slow down for a second.

Before the first cast, I kept looking at the ASHI in my hand, messing with the rig, pulling on the legs, trying to picture what that reactive TPE was going to do once it got around fish. Then I got it out on the water, tucked into the rocks from the kayak, and let it show me.

A few casts in, it started making sense.

The Qwik Rig keeps it sitting right. The ASHI legs keep moving on the pause, even when I’m barely doing anything. And when that fish committed, it felt like one of those quiet little confirmations you look for when you’re testing something new.

It has that JDM-inspired detail to it, but it still feels built for the way we actually fish.

Not every bait needs to be loud to get noticed.

This one just needed water.

Maybe growing older is realizing that being strong doesn’t mean having everything figured out.

That you can spend years trying to become someone, only to realize you were supposed to spend more time being someone.

There are places that make you forget about the noise. Places where the things you thought were so important suddenly seem pretty damn small.

And standing there, surrounded by something bigger than yourself, you realize that maybe feeling small isn’t a bad thing.

Maybe it’s a gift.

A reminder that you don’t have to control everything.

You don’t have to have all the answers.

You just have to be present enough to notice that you’re here.

Because this life is a lot bigger than any of us.

And somehow, we’re lucky enough to be a part of it.

There’s something humbling about standing among giants.

I’m 7 feet tall, and somehow these mountains, these trees, these canyons still have a way of making me feel small.

Maybe that’s the point.

Life moves fast. Too fast sometimes. We spend so much time chasing the next thing, worrying about what’s behind us, or trying to get somewhere that we forget to actually be where we are.

The last couple years has taught me to slow down.

To take the long way. To find the trail. To stand beside something that has been here for hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years and remember that my time here is incredibly short.

There will always be another deadline, another responsibility, another reason to wait for “someday.”

But someday isn’t promised.

These moments are.

The cold water running over your feet. The mountains stretching farther than you can see. The feeling of standing beneath a tree so massive that even at 7 feet tall, you’re reminded just how small you really are.

Adventure doesn’t always have to be about going farther.

Sometimes it’s just about slowing down enough to notice where you already are.

Life is a collection of moments.

Make it count.

I learned my rod floats (luckily) when I threw it in the lake out of frustration..

The dog days of summer will humble you.

Long days. Triple-digit heat. Sweat in your eyes. Hours between bites. Fish that throw the hook at the kayak, and break off in the mats. Some days you spend more time questioning your decisions than celebrating them.

The camera doesn’t always catch the grind. It usually only sees the hero shots.

But this… this is the part I love most.

Showing up when it’s hard. Learning when nothing goes right. Coming back tomorrow knowing the lake doesn’t owe you a thing.

Not every trip ends with a personal best.

Some end with sore shoulders, a dry measuring board, and another lesson.

That’s fishing.

And somehow… that’s exactly what keeps me coming back.

Summer in Texas has a way of testing how bad you really want it.

The heat wears you down. The slop fights every cast. The fish make you earn every bite.

Managed to fool a few today, and honestly… that’s enough to keep me coming back.

Lunch hits different when it’s eaten out of a truck bed with zero plan and fish on the brain.

Half the sandwich’s gone before you even realize you’re starving.
Sun’s up, gear’s everywhere, and nobody’s sitting still long enough to finish a conversation.

No table. No schedule.
Just a quick bite before getting back to what you actually came for.

Honestly… might be the best part of the day.
