Self Defense Drill of the Week: The Hand Yoke

The Hand Yoke or Web of hand blow is an excellent technique when executed correctly. We teach this to law enforcement and security since it allows you to strike, stun, grab and manipulate the subject. You will be amazed at the effectiveness of this strike.



However this is a technique that needs to be practiced more than the edge of hand or heel of hand since there is risk of thumb and pinky damage. You will notice that you're going to need to adjust the angle of your strike in order to avoid injury. This is why you need to practice hitting with full power in training which can only be accomplished on a training dummy or target.

A hand yoke to the throat, side of the neck, back of the neck, under the nose or even the testicles can be devastating. People who have used this technique in the ‘Hand Yoke Come Along” featured in Guardian Police Combatives have reported rendering the subject unconscious (or extremely compliant) when applying this strike to the back or side of the neck.
