State-bound!

Our West Carroll anglers weighed in a four-fish bag weighing 10.98 lbs to qualify for the IHSA State Championship!

The chilly weather made for a slow start, but the bite picked up a little as it warmed up.

Big fish were scarce, with a number of teams weighing in five-fish bags under 10 lbs. The day’s biggest bass weighed 4.25 lbs and was weighed in by a Brimfield angler.

Roscoe, Lucas and Coach Larry’s bag got them in at 4th, with Erie-Prophetstown in 3rd (11.16), Brimfield in 2nd (11.77) and Moline winning the Sectional with an excellent bag of 14.69 lbs.

Thirty boats participated, with the top 10 moving on to State.

Congratulations to Coach Larry, Roscoe and Lucas on getting us to State for the second year in a row!

A chilly start for IHSA Sectionals at the Savanna Marina!

Our West Carroll anglers will be launching in position 18 out of 30 boats today, as they aim to finish Top Ten to qualify for a spot at State in early June.

Good luck to Roscoe, Lucas and Coach Larry!

Weigh-in will be at 3:00pm at the Savanna Marina, come on by to see if we can make it to State two years running!

Our West Carroll anglers and coaches produced a fine performance in Pool 14 today.

Congratulations to Roscoe, Lucas and Coach Larry for qualifying for the Sectional tournament this coming Thursday! They weighed in a limit of five fish with a weight of 12.75 lbs. Great job!

Noah, Brycen and Coach Ray fished hard and had fun - weighing in two good fish at 5.1 lbs, but ultimately did not crack the top six to move on to the next round. They did win the dogfish competition! 😜

We are very proud of our anglers! It’s been a weird spring, with odd weather and venue changes, but they kept learning and adapting. Thanks to Coaches Larry and Ray for all their time and effort!🥇

Let’s see if the Boat 1 crew can make it to State next Thursday, fishing out of our home port in Savanna! 🙌

It’s going to be a beautiful day for fishing!

Our West Carroll anglers will be competing in the IHSA Regional tournament on Pool 14 today.

We managed a good draw this morning, with Boat 1 - Coach Larry, Lucas and Roscoe - taking off 7th, and Boat 2 - Coach Ray, Noah and Brycen - out at 3rd.

Nineteen boats will be competing today, with the top six moving on to Sectionals.

Great job, everyone!

Our West Carroll anglers got into the fish today, with Roscoe and Lucas finishing in second place at the Panther Invitational.

They weighed in a five-fish limit of 9.98lbs, narrowly getting edged out for first place by Erie-Prophetstown with a bag of 10.04lbs.

Brycen, Noah and Bryson worked hard in tough conditions, with Noah weighing in a 2.2lb fish and Brycen one weighing 1.94lb.

Our anglers did well considering the conditions and this strong finish bodes well for the rest of the season. Eighteen boats competed today, so a good showing by our guys.

Thank you to our coaches, Larry Hoertz and Ray Skiles for all their hard work and effort. Also a shoutout to Bob G for his help - we appreciate it!

Next up is the Regional tournament at Apple Canyon Lake on May 14th!

We have three boats fishing today in the invitational hosted by Erie-Prophetstown out of the Savanna Marina, and the anglers are raring to go!

Anglers, it looks like we will have fine fishing weather this Thursday. It's time to get out on the water!

Instead of meeting Wednesday, we will all get together at 4:30 pm Thursday at Big Slough in Thomson - the Spring Lake boat ramp.

Don't forget to bring your:

1. Fishing license (if you are over 16).
2. Lifejacket/PFD.
3.) Sunglasses/eyewear.
4.) Rods/lures etc.

If you need a ride, please let your teammates know so we can make arrangements. Everyone should attend this important session!

Here we go!

Our 2026 cohort of West Carrol Thunder anglers kicked off their season last night with a bit of flipping practice at our first team meeting of the year.

This season’s anglers are Noah Atherton, Bryson Bunn, Garrett Carter, Roscoe Davies, Brycen Griffith and Lucas Tautz.

We have a great group of talented young men this year - we can’t wait to get out on the water!
