Bowlin’ at the Riv

It’s been another beautiful week in the neighborhood with moderate temperatures, some much needed rain and the seemingly omnipresent zephyrs (sometimes ramped up to gale force winds) that have caused a lot of branches, twigs and leaves being separated from trees.
Some of our junior bowlers have recently garnered accolades for their achievements. Oliver Harms was named Bowler of the Year in the Wisconsin JBST (Junior Bowler Scholarship Tour) while Paityn Hauge took first place in the scratch division of the WYBT (Wisconsin Youth Bowler Tour) during last weekend’s competition. A huge factor in their successes has been the coaching of Jake Harrison, Brendan Holl and Dylan Werner who have contributed many hours of their knowledge to our young bowlers. The Junior Gold competition is about 4 weeks away in Minneapolis and our bowlers will be quite ready.
In somewhat subdued scoring conditions, Curtis Paul led all bowlers with a 652 series after a 238 start. Butch Layton was close behind at 647 with a 223 finale while Mike Wernsing was at 619 with a 265 final game. Jake Harrison was at 606 with a 222 final game while Bob Rapp was a pin back at 605 with a 207 middle game. Curtis Paul currently holds the high average at 224 after 5 weeks of competition in the 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League. Mike Wernsing is 1 pin back with a 223 average.
Andrea Murray led the ladies with a 554 series that included a 219 second game while Paityn Hauge was at 535 and Kim Paul was at 527 after a 207 middle game.

Week #4 of the 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League is in the books during the middle of a windy, rainy week. Leading all bowlers was Mike Wernsing for the Kniggits team on lanes 3 & 4. He put together games of 230, 246 and 226 for his finely crafted 702 series. Brendan Holl finished with a 247 finale for his 663 set while Scott Noltemeyer hit 650 after a 265 start. Dave Loecher was at 607 with a 236 finish while Butch Layton was at an even 600 with a 215 middle game. Elliot Harms, the youngest member of the very talented Brew Crew team, bested his junior bowling teammates with a nice 544 series on games of 174, 191 and 179. Elliot is one of our junior bowlers headed for the Junior Gold bowling competition in Minneapolis in mid July.
Last evening I convinced Kim Paul that she really wanted to join the summer league. As luck would have it, she ended up on my team. Anyway, she proceeded to roll a 545 series that included a 245 personal high game to lead the ladies of the league. Welcome to the Angels & Demons. At a close second was Jackie Dyrud who hit 539 after a 202 middle game with Jeanne Overboe hitting 528 after a 190 start.

Another eventful week at The Riv with the third week of action for the 2026 Summer League. Leading the ladies this week was Andrea Murray with an even 600 series on games of 225, 184 and 191. Paityn Hauge’s been rolling a lot of strikes lately and this week she hit 576 with a 224 middle game. Jackie Dyrud, leadoff bowler for the Angels & Demons team, hit 557 after a 198 finishing game. McKenzie Ambler hit 548 and Jeanne Overboe was at 542 after a 221 second game.
Leading the guys this week was Curtis Paul who was averaging 230 going into this week’s action. He rolled a pair of 268s after starting with a 213 for his huge 749 series raising his average to 236 going into the 4th week. Mike Wernsing hit a 717 set on big games of 215, 223 and 279. Dave Loecher hit 667 after finishing with a 237 and 238. Young Oliver Harms rolled a 652 with games of 205, 222 and 225 to lead the Brew Crew team. Nick Hartley rolled a 235 middle game for his 650 series while Scott Noltemeyer was at 643 after a 236 finale. Butch Layton was at 629 after a 263 start with Brendan Holl a pin back at 628 after a 235 middle game while Mike Lien finished at an even 600.

Week #2 of the 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League has been completed with 48 bowlers competing and enjoying the fun. Lots of good bowling and camaraderie.
Leading the ladies was Paityn Hauge with a great 628 series on games of 228, 207 and 193 bringing her summer season’s average up to 208. Jackie Dyrud rolled a 573 series with a 212 middle game and Alisha Rapp finished at 510.
Leading the guys was Chuck Meier of Grandpa’s Team with a great 690 after a big 277 start. Curtis Paul, who last week hit an even 700, got close this session with a 683 after a 278 start. Curtis is currently averaging a league high 230 for 6 games. Brendan Holl hit 658 with a 257 start while Mike Wernsing managed a 644 with a 237 final game. Dom Hutter, having just completed his first year Viterbo University in La Crosse, hit 634 with a 236 finale and Jake Harrison started with a 262 game for his 631 set. Scott Noltemeyer rolled a pair of 215s and followed with an even 200 game for his 630 series while young Oliver Harms hit 612 after a big 255 closing game.

Bowlin’ at the Riv

The opening session of the 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League on May 20th was a great success with 47 bowlers getting back on the lanes. The league will continue for ten more weeks with funds raised going to the junior, middle school and high school leagues.
Leading the ladies this first week was Paityn Hauge with a fabulous 621 series on games of 194, 214 and 213. Jackie Dyrud hit 566 after a 216 middle game while Andrea Murray finished at 551 after a 194 finishing game.
Curtis Paul hit the first national of the summer season with an even 700 series on games of 196, 259 and 245. Brendan Holl got close with a 694 with games of 234, 213 and 247. Nick Hartley managed a 648 with a 234 third game while Scott Noltemeyer rolled a 225 middle game for his 628 series. Bob Rapp hit 239 his second game for a 619 series while Butch Layton was a couple pins back at 617 with a 232 middle game.

The 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League starts 5 days from today on Wednesday, May 20th. We’ve still got room for two or three bowlers to complete a 12th team. Cost remains at $12.00/bowler with $6.00 going to the junior and school programs. The league runs for 11 weeks, commencing on May20th and running to Jul 29th starting at 7:00 PM. The signup sheet is posted at the bowling counter at Riviera Bowl. A summer of fun is promised!
The Sauk Prairie High School and Middle School bowling teams are running a fund raiser brat stand today and tomorrow in the Ace Hardware parking lot from 9 AM to 5 PM. Come down and enjoy some great brats!

Bowlin’ at the Riv

The end of the 2025 – 2026 bowling season is upon us. Roll offs and banquets have been held with end-of-season awards and $$ distributed. Right around the corner is the start of the 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League set to commence on Wednesday, May 20th at 7:00 PM. We’ve still got room for 2 teams. Cost is $12.00/bowler. We bowl for 11 weeks with Jul 29th as the final session.
The top team for the Monday Night Special is the Unknowns. They bowled all season with the same five bowlers. Congratulations to Austin Anderson, Andy and Jacob Jones along with Jon and Cody Schwichtenberg.
The winning team for the Wednesday night Riviera Men’s Classic is Rivera Bowl. Team members include Sonny and Jaydon Stock, Tom Curtis, Jeff Dyrud, Troy Kersten, Garrett Pape and Paul Holzbauer. Congratulations on a great season!
Fall organizational meetings have been schedule for August in preparation for the 2026 – 2027 season.

Bowlin’ at the Riv

The Wednesday evening Riviera Men’s Classic held their 4-team roll off last evening, Apr 22nd, with the teams of K & K Auto, Riviera Bowl, Steven’s Construction and Gustafson’s Body Shop participating. The format was for each team to bowl one complete game against each of the other three teams with points being awarded for the bowler-to-bowler match-ups and team games.
The Riviera Bowl team fairly well dominated the evening to claim top honors of being league champions for the 2025-2026 season. The Riviera team was led by Garrett Pape’s 720 series on games of 235, 245 and 240. Along with Garrett’s great series, Sonny Stock got close with a 698; Tom Curtis ended at 694; Jeff Dyrud was at 579 and Jaydon Stock finished at 545. Congratulations to the Riviera team and their great bowling. The season ending banquet is scheduled for the 29th where prize $$ and other paraphernalia will be distributed.
In approximately 4 weeks, the 2026 Riviera Bowl Summer League will commence. We still have room for 2 teams. Bowling cost is $12.00/bowler each night with $6.00 going to junior bowling and the competitive school teams. Come on down and have some fun.

Bowlin’ at the Riv

The 9-pin tap tournament for the junior bowlers attending this summer’s Junior Gold competition in Minneapolis in mid-July was a great success on Sunday, Apr 12th. Many, many bowlers showed up to participate and a good time was had by all.
The 2026 Riviera Sumer League is rapidly filling up with room for two more 4 or 5 person teams. Bowling commences on Wednesday, May 20th, at 7:00 PM.
League competition is now complete at Riv with some of the banquets having already been held and some roll offs in the offing. The Spares & Strikes Forever Couple’s League saw last season’s winners, Spare Me a Beer, repeat as league champions by virtue of winning both halves this season.
In the Tuesday evening Riviera Ladies Classic, the Alkar Pin Smokers accomplished the same feat.
In the Monday evening roll offs for the Monday Night Special, the Unknowns claimed the crown in a very close contest edging Custom Installation, The Gym and Dreamworks. Their season ending banquet is scheduled for this coming Monday, Apr 20th.
Congrats to the winning teams.
In final week’s action of the Riviera Men’s Classic, Alisha Rapp led the ladies with a 595 series after a 230 start (she whupped me again) with Tammy Young at 560 and Jeanne Overboe in at 511. Brendan Holl put on a 2-handed bowling display in this last week of league competition with a magnificent 780 series on big games of 277, 234 and 269. Dan Rapp rolled a 743 series with great games of 251, 279 and 213. Chris Huppert put together games of 246, 250 and 233 for his 729 series while John Lehan managed a 703 with games of 243, 202 and 258. Don Larsen got close with a 697 after a league high 288 finishing game while Jake Harrison was at 693 with a 265 middle game. Mike Wernsing was a pin back at 692 after a 244 closing game with Jeff Dyrud at 674 and Nick Hartley with a “mark of the beast” 666 series. Bob Rapp was at 658 with Curtis Paul at 646 and Reese Brereton at 653 after a 278 start. Mike Lien started with a 258 game for his 647 set while Jason Miller finished at 638. Scott Roelke, Troy Hauge, Corey Clark and Austin Udelhofen finished at 627, 626, 614 and 613 respectively.
The roll off teams for the Wednesday night Riviera Men’s Classic are set with Steven’s Construction winning the third 3rd and Gustafson’s Auto Body claiming the wild card sport. These two teams will square off against first 3rd winner K & K Auto and second 3rd winner Riviera Bowl on Apr 22nd. Good luck to these 4 teams.
