2026 Stone Poneys Season Recap:

The Stone Poneys wrapped up their 2026 season on Sunday after a pair of tough losses in the Section 5A Tournament, falling 4–1 to the Muskies on Saturday and 12–1 to Bemidji on Sunday. While the ending wasn’t what the team hoped for, the full season tells a very different story. The Poneys finished 15–9 overall, completing a dramatic turnaround from their 6–15 record in 2025 and proving that the program is trending in the right direction.

Offensively, the Poneys took a massive step forward, averaging 7.29 runs per game with a .296 team batting average. Leading the charge was Calen O’Connell, who put together an outstanding summer at the plate, hitting .443 (31–70) with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 19 runs scored, 22 RBI, and 14 stolen bases. Brayden Simones (.362) and Braeden Dykhuizen (.341) also delivered strong seasons, helping anchor a lineup that consistently produced and kept the Poneys in games.

On the mound, Jalen Vorpahl set the tone with one of the best pitching performances in the region. He threw 59 innings to a 5–1 record, recorded 2 complete games and 2 saves, and posted a stellar 1.83 ERA while striking out 73 and walking just 13. Brayden Simones added a strong two‑way season, throwing 43.1 innings with a 5–3 record and a 3.74 ERA. Jakson Scheffler was a reliable arm out of the bullpen, tossing 41 innings, striking out 37, walking 17, and picking up 2 saves.

One of the defining traits of the 2026 Stone Poneys was their depth and resilience. When players missed games, others stepped up. When injuries hit, younger players filled roles and made the most of their opportunities. With six players just one year removed from high school and four still playing high school ball, this season was a major developmental step for the team’s future core. Their growth throughout the summer is a big reason for the optimism heading into 2027.

The Poneys extend a heartfelt thank‑you to all families, friends, and fans who supported the team throughout the summer. Your energy and encouragement make a tremendous difference. Special thanks go to Jesse Ouren, the voice of the Poneys, for his work in the press box, and to Darren Haus for stepping in when needed. The team also appreciates the Sartell City Parks staff for their care of the field and their help in the concession stand — your efforts never go unnoticed. Also thank you to all of our Sponsors for your support to our team and to our field!

While the season didn’t end the way the Poneys hoped, the improvement from 2025 to 2026 shows a team rising quickly and confidently. With Sartell set to co-host the 2027 State Tournament, excitement is already building for what’s ahead. More information will be shared this offseason as the team begins looking for volunteers for August 2027.

Thanks again for an incredible summer — and as always, Poney Up!

Game Recap Sponsored By: Blue Line Sports Bar and Grill

The Stone Poneys closed out the regular season in style on Thursday night, grinding out a thrilling 3–2 win over the Monticello Polecats to cap a season‑high five‑game winning streak; perfect timing as they roll into the Section 5A Tournament.

Monticello struck first in the opening inning and later pushed their lead to 2–0 in the sixth, while strong Polecats pitching kept the Poneys’ bats quiet for most of the night. But in the bottom of the eighth, everything changed. Brenden Boesen and Cayden Behrmann opened the inning with back‑to‑back singles, and a sac fly from Calen O’Connell cut the deficit in half. Behrmann then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, setting the stage for Liam Moreno, whose chopper to short forced a rushed throw that sailed away, allowing Behrmann to score the tying run. Brayden Simones followed with a single to move Moreno to third, and Braeden Dykhuizen delivered the go‑ahead sac fly that put the Poneys on top for good. In the ninth, the lead held firm.

Moreno led the offense with a 2‑for‑4 night, while O’Connell added a hit. On the mound, Jalen Vorpahl was outstanding once again, tossing seven innings of four‑hit, one earned run baseball with nine strikeouts. Simones took over for the final two frames, earning the win with no hits allowed and three strikeouts.

It was a gritty, emotional finish against a former league foe and a tough Class A opponent; exactly the kind of momentum the Poneys wanted heading into postseason play. Now they await their Section 5A matchup, set to be announced this weekend.

The team sends a huge thank‑you to all the fans who packed St. Cloud Orthopedics Field this summer. See you in Hinckley next week.
