𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲?

You may find yourself wondering...𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀? Like countless narratives in kite flying, it's a name forged in heartful connection...

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆, a writer, musician, dreamer, advocate, and my constant inspiration. When she was 16 years young, she began authoring a children's book, entitled "The Winsome Wonderful," a tale enshrining all that is magical in this world. A woman of endless grace, beauty, love, empathy, spirit, and joy, her embrace and encouragement of my kiting endeavors forged the pilot I became. I fly the Winsome name in her everlasting memory, and carry her with me whenever the wind comes calling. I'm blessed beyond words to be her son.

𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆...

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝘆'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁---𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! My name is Ben Palmer, and like so many flyers across the globe, I'm a kite afficionado. When I was 6 years young, I had my first kiting experience, flying an 8ft rainbow-hued delta on the breezy flanks of Harris Hill in Elmira, NY. It was love at first flight! That spark turned into an unbridled passion for the skies---and for the kites that paint her azure canvas.

I now collect, design, and pilot a diverse (and constantly growing!) roster of single-line, sport, and show kites from my home flying fields in Saratoga Springs, NY, with a special emphasis on my beloved delta and delta-derivatives. A proud member of the American Kitefliers Association (Region 2), I began festival flying in 2026, and will be taking many kiting journeys in the years ahead. Sharing the skies a gift beyond words, and the kiting community is a landscape of endless talent, kindness, and joy. Outreach flying is at the heart of all I do; 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹.

When becalmed days arise, you'll find me celebrating my other interests, from astrophysics, art, and writing, to golden retrievers, Broadway musicals (shoutout to any fellow Hadestown, Hamilton, and Wicked fans), and Major League Baseball (especially cheering on my cherished Boston Red Sox.) My background in astronomy and hospitality keeps me constantly busy ---but there's always time to converse and fly!
