If your baby wakes up at night, the first thing to adjust is… YOUR RESPONSE
We all do our best. But some reflexes, even well-intentioned, can actually prolong the wake-up without us realizing it.
Here’s what to avoid :
❌ Picking them up immediately
Many babies can fall back asleep on their own if given a few seconds. Intervening too quickly often wakes them up fully.
❌ Turning on a bright light
Light tells the brain "it’s morning." Falling back asleep becomes much harder.
❌ Feeding at every wake-up
This creates a feed-to-sleep association. Your baby may start needing it even without real hunger.
❌ Talking, playing, or changing the diaper unnecessarily
The environment should stay calm, dark, and identical to bedtime.
❌ Trying multiple soothing methods in the same wake-up
This overstimulates your baby and can turn a brief wake-up into a long one.
✅ Golden rule : slow down, stay calm, keep it dark, and choose ONE method.
Consistency is what improves sleep long-term 🌙
