Volunteering Opportunities
Help The SFCC Pickleball Club thrive by becoming a volunteer! We need help in areas such as:
• Assisting with tournaments (check-in, setup, scorekeeping, etc.)
• Taking photos of play and winners
• Social media outreach
• Supporting our Friday Round Robins
• Helping coordinate special events (potlucks, socials, etc.)

Club Updates
1. New Pickleball Nets
Many of you shared concerns about our old, flimsy nets. Thanks to club funds, we purchased one high-quality net with a ratchet system and no middle pole. It was such a big improvement that we’ve now ordered two more, which will be ready for play soon!
2. Skill-Building Classes
Many members expressed interest in improving their skills. Club President Gayle Torrez worked with SFCC to bring in certified instructors for afternoon classes:
• Mondays & Wednesdays (starting Aug. 25) – Instructor: Joe Marzocco
– 2:45 – 3:45 PM (FULL)
– 4:00 – 5:00 PM (OPENINGS AVAILABLE)
• Tuesdays & Thursdays (starting Sept. 2) – Instructor: Scott Reeves
– 2:45 – 3:45 PM (FULL)
– 4:00 – 5:00 PM (FULL)
3. Friday Round Robins
Friday Round Robins, introduced in June, have quickly become a popular way to play more organized games.
🕑 Fridays | 2:00 – 4:00 PM
📲 Sign up on the Team Reach app using code: SFCCrr02.
Players typically get 5–6 games with randomly selected partners. If you’re waitlisted, don’t worry—spots often open when players drop.
4. Potlucks Bring Players Together
Our club hosted two successful Potlucks that brought together players of all skill levels.
🍲 Thank you to everyone who brought a dish to share!
🎲 For extra fun, members played “Left, Center, Right” with $3 buy-ins. Thank you Gayle for introducing us to this fun game!
These gatherings helped build camaraderie and welcomed non-members to experience the fun of our club.
5. Past Tournaments Recap
So far, the club has hosted two tournaments:
1. Girls Inc. Fundraiser Tournament – Proceeds were shared between SFCC Pickleball Club and Girls Inc.
2. In-House Tournament – Funds raised supported SFCC’s Campus Cupboard. We raised a total of $1050.00, including a matching donation from Foundation and the Auto Club.
Players were grouped into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced brackets. Feedback was mostly positive, and we’re working to improve based on your suggestions.
