As an athlete, it's crucial to focus on the things you can control—what lies beneath the surface, out of view from spectators. These are the behind-the-scenes actions that shape your success: your training, preparation, mindset, nutrition, recovery, and discipline. Wins and losses are the results of these efforts, but they aren't the primary focus. By emphasizing the process, the things you control, you build a foundation for long-term success, regardless of the outcome. When should children start lifting weights?

The National Strength and Conditioning Association’s position statement says that children as young as 5-6 years old can begin training. There is a compelling amount of evidence showing that children and adolescents can significantly increase their strength beyond what is normally due to growth. If your child is competitively participating in a sport they are likely being exposed to forces greater than strength training.
