The DNF is just the beginning.
In November, at the Santa Margarita Spartan 50K, I did something I’ve never done in my fitness journey: I didn’t finish.
I pushed through 17 miles, clearing the first ultra loop and tackling every obstacle in my path. Surprisingly, I hit every single one flawlessly—the strength was there, the technique was locked in... though, let's be real, I still couldn't nail that spear throw! Haha. Some things never change.
But as I finished that first loop, the physical reality set in. My hip flexors and glutes were red-lining. I knew if I headed back out for the second loop, I’d be risking a serious injury rather than just a hard workout.
Trust your body. Know yourself. True discipline is knowing when to push through the wall and when to respect the physical limits you haven't yet trained to break.
For the past year and a half, I stepped back from the relentless consistency of training. I let myself believe that because I conquered a marathon with prior training, I could tackle 31 miles of technical trails and elevation on "straight grit" alone.
I was wrong. Grit is the spark, but discipline and consistency are the fuel. Motivation gets you to the starting line; preparation gets you to the finish. I had the heart, but without the trail miles or the elevation work, the mountain took its due.
At Unstoppable Force Fitness, we preach Resilience. That doesn’t mean never falling—it means being authentic enough to admit when you weren't prepared and disciplined enough to fix it.
"Unstoppable" isn't a state of perfection. It’s a commitment to:
Self-Correction: Acknowledging where the work went missing.
Physical Intelligence: Listening to your body so you can live to fight another day.
Extreme Discipline: Returning to the daily habits that build a foundation.
Be better. For your goals. For the people watching you. For the person you see in the mirror.
I’m heading back to the drawing board. The road to the next 50K (and finally hitting that spear) started January. Not with a wish, but with a schedule.
Be U. Be Unstoppable. For You.
