Get to know our new players! First up: Eddie, a true man of the world, Eddie has lived all over, but now calls San Diego, and The Rovers home.
What does it mean to be a Rover?
It means you’re part of a tight-knit crew with the spirit of Irish hurling in the West Coast. Passion, pride, a few “that’s what she said” and dad jokes, best of all we get to represent San Diego with every swing of our hurleys. You’re not just playing for the team, but also for the pride of honoring the game’s roots and building a legacy under the SoCal sun.
How would you explain hurling to a friend?
Hurling’s like a high-speed mix of lacrosse, field hockey, baseball and a “never-give-up” spirit .You wield a stick called a hurley to whip a small ball (sliotar) across a pitch, scoring goals and points. It’s fast, fierce, and feels like organized chaos, think rugby with sticks.
What’s it like to play hurling?
It is an adrenaline rush! heart-pounding sprints, split-second catches, and the thrill of smacking the sliotar just right. Every game’s a battle (bruises included) but the camaraderie and pride make it addictive.
