What is the purpose of a dressage saddle? 🐴
Have you ever really thought about that?
The purpose of a dressage saddle is to support—not force—your position. Your saddle should ALLOW your body to find the correct position on your three-point seat, rather than forcing you onto your tailbone or p***c bone so you can have more effective aids.
The thigh blocks should not force your leg into a specific position either. They should be there to support and assist the rider when needed—whether you’re riding a big extended trot, dealing with an unexpected spook, or simply needing something to kneel behind to help maintain balance during bigger or sudden movements.
Your saddle should work with your body, not against it.
If your saddle isn’t allowing you to sit comfortably on your three-point seat, the thigh blocks are interfering with your leg, or you’re struggling with back or hip discomfort, there are solutions!
Sometimes the answer is as simple as finding the right saddle—or even making adjustments to the one you already have to get it back in balance.
A properly fitted saddle should help you feel supported, balanced, and free to move with your horse. 💙
