Here is the video from our Gifts for the Homeless video for 2018. I used the money from all the sales we received through our website from December 10th-17th and purchased gifts for the homeless. On December 22nd-23rd, we handed them out to some people in need.
It's important that we respect everyone's privacy, and some people were not comfortable being on camera, so not everyone that received a gift was recorded.
You can check out the 2018 video at the bottom of this post.
The purpose of this event is to give some gifts to those that may not be expecting anything. But my main intention in doing this event is to hopefully inspire people to take the opportunities to help out others. Even if it's a simple gesture of kindness, holding a door open for someone, helping someone cross a busy street, or helping to push someones car out of the way of traffic, or buying an extra sandwich at lunch and giving it to someone that is hungry. Maybe it could be as simple as considering hiring someone that you may have overlooked or passed judgement on. Maybe it's calling that person that you haven't spoken with for a while because you were both upset. If they seem a little harsh, it's probably because they weren't expecting your kindness, and are protecting themselves from being hurt. But dont let your energy become weakened. Start the call with kindness and end it with kindness. Regardless if you received it back.
The key to all of this is to give without expectation. A thank you doesn't have to be required, and it really shouldn't be. Because how much could a thank you mean if it wasn't given voluntarily anyways.
Try giving something today to someone else, whether it's a smile, a gift, or just a moment of your time and attention, and give it for the sake of giving. If gratitude is not returned, or if you do not feel what you have given up was appreciated, remember that you were not looking to make a transaction. Even though you will receive a return on what you give, you don't need it to come from the recipient. The return will come from with in yourself.
Be kind. Not just to those that are kind to you, but to all those that will experience an encounter with you.
A special thank you goes out to my Mom, and my good friends Dave and Lauren
