In the year 2001, in San Diego, California, USA, a group of people with no great dedication to anything except self preservation and beer belly contemplation met and created Setanta GFC, San Diego. Today this organization is known throughout every back alleyway in San Diego as, well, Setanta.........

came together to discuss an idea that had been mooted some months before. All had seen a marked decline in the popularity of and enthusiasm for Gaelic Football in Southern California over the previous three or four years. All four felt that the only way to stimulate interest was to provide competition to the remaining two men's GAA teams on a regular basis. After numerous meetings and quarrels over naming of the club, Setanta GFC San Diego became a reality. We thoughtfully adopted an ethos that is the cornerstone of the club's existence and set about organizing our club structure based upon Josef Stalin's Five Year Plan. Our efforts to identify with our Irish heritage led us to choose the name Setanta, a figure from Irish mythology. We also wanted to identify with San Diego and therefore chose red and black to be our team colors in honor of the proud traditions of San Diego State University. It was almost a unanimous decision except for the lone dissenter whose motivation for wanting Charger(thats the American Football team in San Diego) blue and yellow stemmed solely from his oft times misguided loyalty to his native county (that would be Clare).
