RESULTS: SAN VICENTE – 6/7/26 – TOURNAMENT #4
Tournament #4 is in the books! It was a beautiful summer day in San Diego, with early morning clouds giving way to sunshine, warm water, and a great day of fishing.
Reports from around the lake indicated the bite was strong early, but slowed for most anglers as the day progressed. The overall story was one we've become familiar with lately at San Vicente—plenty of fish being caught, but not a lot of size. However...
San Vicente reminded us that she still has some giants swimming around when angler Bryce Deheyn landed an absolute specimen on a frog in just three inches of water! The fish tipped the scales at 7.10 pounds. The story of landing her was nearly as impressive as the fish itself. After exploding on the frog, she essentially beached herself and became tangled in a stick. The frantic bushwhacking that followed to secure the fish before the hooks came loose was nerve-racking, to say the least.
Congratulations to our Tournament Champion and Big Fish winner, Bryce Deheyn, who brought in an impressive five-fish limit weighing 14.13 pounds of largemouth bass, anchored by his 7.10-pound "Gina." Bryce was the only angler to surpass the 10-pound mark, thanks in large part to his kicker fish. As mentioned, the big bass came on a frog, and that same pattern helped him fill out much of his limit. Other productive techniques included a mix of reaction baits and slower dragging presentations.
Bryce also wanted to point out that he didn't have forward-facing sonar on his captain's boat, making it "quite refreshing to go back to beating the banks and just fishing." For much of the field, the most consistent patterns involved throwing thinnies and dragging drop shots.
Second place went to Luke Fleming with 9.86 pounds, while Lucas Borgerding secured third place with 9.32 pounds. Congratulations to these anglers and to everyone who came out to compete!
As always, a huge THANK YOU goes out to our volunteer boaters who make our club and tournaments possible. We appreciate everything you do.
We're already looking forward to our final event of the season at San Vicente on Sunday, July 19!
