Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) is one of the foundational tools we use to support regulation, focus, and motor control π§ πͺ
For many individuals with autism, the vestibular (balance and spatial awareness) and proprioceptive (body awareness) systems can be dysregulated. This might show up as constant movement-seeking, difficulty sitting still, poor balance, low muscle tone, or challenges with coordination and focus.
We push through these challenges by working with the nervous system.
At Kidisthenics, we integrate short, intentional bursts of rhythmic movement into our sessions to deliver targeted sensory input. These repetitive, patterned movements help the brain organize information coming from the body, laying the groundwork for improved regulation, attention, and controlled movement.
You'll also notice midline-crossing movements β actions that require the left and right sides of the body to work together. Crossing the midline supports bilateral coordination, communication between the brain's hemispheres, and skills essential for daily life like walking, catching and writing.
By meeting the nervous system where it is, we help individuals move through the world with greater confidence.
