Here's what beginners miss: the kick didn't start with the leg. It started with the ginga — the sway underneath everything. Chase the flashy moves first and you'll stall for months. Learn the base in the right order and the kicks come to you.

A Mestre doesn't bless just anyone. On September 5th, he blesses me. 🐉

Years ago I walked into my first roda knowing nothing, just the ginga and a lot of falling down. Mestre Dilaho saw something I couldn't see yet. Now, on his birthday, he's blessing my first day teaching capoeira inside Knockout Boxing Club, as CT Capoeira Oregon expands to Beaverton.

I get hate for telling my boxing students this: hitting hard is the least important thing I'll ever teach you.

Six weeks ago a guy walked in and moved the whole bag rack with one punch. Everybody stopped. Then I put him in with a student 30 pounds lighter — and he asked to stop before round one ended.

He didn't get knocked out. He got out-thought.

Most people celebrate a birthday by sitting down. A Mestre celebrates his by making you move.

On September 5, Mestre Dilaho of CT Capoeira Oregon turns another year stronger — and instead of cake, he's opening the roda.

The same day, he blesses Graduado Negão for his first day teaching boxing students. One master honoring the art. One student stepping into his own. That's not a party. That's a passing of the torch.
