Alright...the first weekend of the Texas State Championship Series is a wrap, and Defenders/Supercross riders showed up in force!
On a freakishly windy Saturday, Lone Star BMX put on a show at our team's home track. "Mean Joaquin" threw down with a big 1st place! Jackson "Cool J" dropped some jaws with his absolute most BLAZING performance to date. Dr. Jones, Carter Kleven, Savannah Kleven and Lily Westley showed up and rocked the house...as did Max McKinney after some time off his bike. Meanwhile, Effie Westley did her thing...winning it all. Xavier "X-Man" may be one of the newest Inter riders, but he served notice to his comp that he has arrived!
The State Race circus moved to Capitol City BMX in Austin from there, and Sunday the team kept on rollin'...
Beau Dent smoked the 14i class...getting one step closer to his destiny in the 14x class!
Speaking of experts, Colton "The Sheriff" showed he belonged and can threaten the podium, along with fellow Defenders National rider Jocee Aguilera.
After suffering grade 2 wrist/grade 1 forearm sprain in the first moto Saturday, Sarah "The Flying Chipmunk" defied Dad's strong suggestion that she sit out, wrapped up her arm and proved to her comp what she's made of. We had seen in Friday night's prerace that she's still the champ, and it's a long season ahead...
The great thing about BMX is how kids who race when they're young build the courage, grit and good character to turn whatever they touch as adults into gold. It's SO much fun to witness this happening with all these kids.
What's more, we've really built a team of the nicest and most positive families one could ever expect. It's an honor to be under the same tent with y'all!
Big thanks to Lone Star BMX and Capitol City BMX for putting on a great show, despite being the "guinea pigs" for the full-gate total points system...which as of Monday has already been mitigated (miti-gated?) by USABMX. Expect the rest of the series to be xfer system. But man...kudos to Jill Kingslien and the scorers/trophy folks at BOTH tracks for doing the near impossible...especially in 50mph wind on Saturday!
Also, major kudos to Eddie Fernandez for taking all of those great photos of the event and giving them out absolutely FREE.
As always, BIG thanks also to our title sponsor Bill Ryan at Supercross BMX. FLY Racing Bike and Ray Hudson have also been there since the beginning, for which we are grateful.
