Through my youngest years my Uncle Gordo played a big role in my life. I often found myself getting into so much trouble at home, school, getting into backyard scraps; however, my uncle and mother(Betty) knew that with that attitude I wasn't going to go very far. So this is where my uncle came into play by stepping in as a father figure role model. My Mother was a single parent raising three boys and one girl it was very tough my sister spent most of her life in and out of the hospital, but my mother always refused to lose she somehow managed to support us! I have always been challenging in whatever it was even if it was arguing with my mom,uncle, or even my school teachers it wasn't the best attitude to have, my uncle used to discipline me! I have always looked up to my uncle and wanted to be exactly like him, he used to be a street fighter . By age six my uncle started teaching me basic boxing moves from what he learned off the streets. He used to set up ring bouts anywhere he could weather it was in out living room or our backyard. Cousins against cousins and somewherein those ring bouts I learned to Love the sport of Boxing more then my Brother and cousins. Since then I have always dreamed about boxing but because my mother was overprotective and money was also an issue she would not allow me to join any boxing affiliations. So as I got older I become more stubborn I insisted that I still wanted to box! So I started mowing lawns and my mother agreed that if I paid my monthly fees and stayed out of trouble I could join a boxing club. Then is when I joined a boxing club called Los Gallos. The first week of training it just seemed that I belonged there it was raw natural talent. Still then there was a big problem; my mother would not allow me to compete in any boxing amateur events. Then is when I got discourage I was in the 9th grade in junior high the desire to box slightly faded. I got myself a job at (Emery's Restaurant) as a Busboy/dishwasher to make some money to buy some things that i had wanted. As I headed off to highschool now boxing was nowhere near my heart now it was all about partying. My senior year in Highschool this nationwide event called Tough Man came to town so then at that time me and my friend Ralph made a pact that if I entered he would enter. I called and signed up and as the event got closer my friend Ralph backed out. I was determined to fight till the end! I was only 18yrs old weighed 180lbs I was considered a light heavyweight. The ToughMan Competition consist of fighters of the streets with the same boxing rules. It determines who's the "Toughest Man" in town. Well, the matchmaker for the event had matched me up with a heavyweight that weighed 250 lbs. At the time of the event, I walked up to the matchmaker and told him I was a light heavyweight and that it was a mistake the matchmaker responded to me "just get in there and kick his a_$. I was not going to back down, my opponent walked up to me and asked if I knew who I was going to be fighting I responded yes he looked at me up and down and laughed and walked off. Then I started thinking on how I was going to approach him in the ring. Even though there was a big weight difference, I started shadow boxing with what my uncle showed me, and from what I learned from training @ the Boxing gym. Then I caught the eye of a fellow amateur boxer working the event that night, Scott Hunt. Scott noticed I was nervous as I was in line to fight a 250lbs Gorilla. I asked Scott for his advice on how I should approach my opponent.Scott answered first of all you have the reach use it to your advantage. So I did just that, that's when the love and desire back for boxing came back in my life! Plus it was the closest to me living my dream fighting in a real boxing ring. Not only that, if it wouldn't have been for the pack I made with my friend I would have never got the desire to box again. Me and my friend Scott became a team for the past 5 Toughman events. In which I won 3 regional titles. My achievements have been the first one of my family to graduate plus I accomplished a childhood dream to turn professional in Boxing, I am a Founder of a Christmas program, I also worked with troubled youth, Thanks to my family support! Being a single mother my mom never gave up on us she always Refused to Lose and my Big Brother Tito played a big role in my life as well as he had to grow up allot quicker to help my mom financially, With the grace of God I would like to be a World Champion someday In Conclusion, I want to Thank the People I love most My Mother Betty, my uncle Gordo, brothers Tito and Jessie, sister Alexandra(RIP) Grandparents Amelia & Viviano and my little ones Angel,Celest & Victoria, much love to my friend Scott, Emilio (trainer)my homeboys Jimmy & Adolph, and the haters much Thanks to the little Psycho Monster Maniacs fans, and more importantly the man upstairs, The Lord Jesus Christ. "My Proclamation"Speech when I got recognized by the City of San Angelo". First of all I want to thank the Man upstairs! And second of all my family,Kids & Friends and my supporting fans!I have truly been blessed to be able to live my Childhood Dream! Sometimes as a child, teenager or even as an adult we intend to let our Dreams fade away Because sometimes we think it's Impossible to accomplish such thing especially growing up in the barrio in a single parent home! Times were tough but I had a "Dream" and thanks to my uncle for always believing in me and keeping me in line. I wasn't the best kid I often found myself getting in trouble with the law but I made a decision to be a leader instead of a follower! Thanks to my Mother Betty for Never giving up on me. And my trainer Emilio Ledezma for taking me in when no one else wanted to. My advice to all you who have Dreams there is a light at the end of the tunnel You just have to keep fighting mentally to keep those Dreams alive! I want to thank the Mayor & the City Council for this award it is an honor and I pledge to be a Positive Role Model for all youth!
