Look at that chrome! So stoked to land this wild Rogue steelhead in the 11th hour of my Southern Oregon trip. With three mornings to fish, I thought hooking into at least one was a reasonable goal. I was on the water by 5:15 every morning and swung flies until my arms ached, with nothing to show for it.

On day four I had one last window before heading home. I rigged up a slightly faster sink tip to my scandi setup, tied on an Unconditional, and hit the river at dawn with my fingers crossed. Bingo!

Every catch is a gift, but when you travel that far and work that hard, it’s so gratifying to succeed. Love this river, this method, and these fish. 🙏🏼

How’s your carp game? I’ve never felt much need to go after warm water fish, but a recent conversation with a friend and an itch for a new challenge led me to the low lands this week. So fun. Love figuring out new places and new techniques. Think I’m going to need a bigger net! 🤓
