Final: 2-1 Win for the Wildcats @ Mt. Vernon!

The boys came out strong and put on a new looking team with some offensive adjustments made by Coach Carril. Holding it even at zero until close to half, Nate Lowry played a beautiful thru ball to Senior Alex Spencer where he released an angled power shot, low and away from the keeper, adding his goal tally this season to 3.

Second half, the Rams were awarded a PK off a penalty inside the box, which they slotted home with 20 minutes remaining. Within the next 5 minutes, though, the wildcats fought back with a great play which Nate Lowry had a great pass to Eita Komoto who fired a shot low and away, grabbing the lead 2-1.

The defense and Aiden worked tirelessly to keep them off the board, and the game ended in a great 2-1 win.

Sophomore Liam Shober continues to impress as the CB/Sweeper, intercepting critical plays. Midfielders Noah Gaston, Gabe Thomason, and Antonio Moreno Ojeda led by CDM Nate Lowry are firing on all cylinders to close off passes and build up offensive plays.

Eita Komoto is the first foreign exchange student to score in a varsity match since fall 2023, and was awarded the teams player of the match with his game-winning goal and never-quit mentality on every play.

Tough game today against a well-structured Anna-Jonesboro, falling 0-2 to open conference play.

The boys worked very hard, but could not break through the structure that AJ kept all game. They struck early in the first half with a bouncing ball after a corner and early second half on a well put together play from midfield into our goal box.

We learn from our mistakes in this loss and push forward as a team with our heads high, ready for the next challenge on Monday in Mt. Vernon.

💪🚨 WILDCATS WIN - WILDCATS WIN🚨🚨
Final 2-1

The Cats took on a physical Central Cougars team, and brought it out in the second half. Staying tied at 0 with many chances and making some halftime adjustments our boys came out looking dominant and possessing the ball together as a unit.

We struck first when Isaiah Findley found an assist to Alex Spencer who slotted his 2nd goal of the season. He played as a utility man as a forward and center back, using both sets of skills on the ball.

We held a 1-0 lead until 7:00 remained, and the brotherly duo of Avery Gullion and Payton Gullion worked a goal shown below. Avery had a long throw assist to which Payton headed it into the top bins, taking a 2-0 lead.

Cougars scored with 4:00 minutes to go, leaving a wild ending. With 2:00 left, goalie Aiden Winterhalter came out of his box to have a fantastic sliding save.

Massive shout out to Eita Komoto, Nate Lowry, and the Funky Five defensive unit for keeping the offense of Breese shut down.

This was an amazing team win, as the boys stayed positive and rallied together.

Now onto our first conference game Saturday against Anna Jonesboro at home! Come out at 11:00 to see some great conference soccer!

Boys in Breese Central! Come out and support Varsity and JV tonight starting at 4:30pm!

Rasul looks to approach double digits in goals, while Avery Gullion and Nate Lowry seek to add to their numerous assists!

The defensive unit, A Gullion, P Gullion, L Shober, Caid Davis and goalie Aiden Winterhalter, calling themselves the “Funky Five” plan to keep a clean sheet against Central.

Boys soccer came up short 6-1 last night against a senior-heavy Highland team who beat a strong Edwardsville team last week. They held them to 4-1 until half, and Highland grabbed the final 2 later in second half, one coming at the very end of the game.

Sophomore Kam Rasul keeps finding the net with the lone goal and assist from Left Back Payton Gullion.
This extends Kam’s goal streak to 5 games, leading the team with 7 on the season.

Sophomore Gabe Thomason made his way through a rough game being fouled and hit every play, but completing many passes and having steal after steal. Senior Eita Komoto also had an outstanding game in the Midfield while connecting many passes and disrupting the bulldog offense.

Last but not least, Sophomore Aiden Winterhalter puts his body on the line as our keeper. He had 9 saves, but canceled out many more chances. He continues to grow and impress viewers and the opposing teams.

Wildcats take on Highland tonight under the lights at 7:00pm! Sophomore Kam Rasul looks to add to his 6 goals, while senior Avery Gullion will look to continue delivering more assists.

Come out to see the two teams at 3-1 battle in Highland!

The Boys ended the Greenville Tournament with an exclamation point in a big 5-0 win against Greenville Comets, giving lots of subs time to develop on varsity.

Missing midfield senior Alex Spencer today, the team had a gap filled by many subs and they stepped up! Kam Rasul grabbed a hat trick, taking him to 6 goals in just 4 games.

Nate Lowry led the team in assists, 2, while also finding the net for the first time of the season with a rocket from 22 yards out into the corner. Avery Gullion continued his assist streak with one assist to Rasul, while Noah Gaston found the net with a great shot just inside the 18 for the first time in his Junior season.

The team was active in the oppositions goal box with 14 shots on goal and 17 shots, having 82% shot accuracy as a team.

Defensively, Liam Shober, Caid Davis, Avery and Payton Gullion, Tolka, and Dexter Swagler held down the back line consistently and safely leading to minimal chances for the Comets.

Winterhalter, sophomore keeper, maintained the shut out with 4 great saves and also coming out to stop chances more than 4 times.

Sophomore Hayden Dasch had a great first varsity start at RM position, tallying around 45 minutes and lots of strong challenges and completed passes.

Subs that got 20-40 minutes and chances for attack were Kayne Rhynes, Hunter Williams, John Wilson, and Koltyn Tolka.

Way to go boys!!
