"Oh cool, you're a life coach...can you give me advice/tell them what to do about ______?"

That is often the reaction I get after telling someone what I do - especially if they're stuck with me for a while (e.g., Uber and Lyft drivers) - but contrary to popular belief, a good coach doesn't give advice or even talk much; instead, they simply show up and provide space for people to be honest; allowing them to discover (and tell themselves!) what they should do about ______.

This essay by Parker Palmer isn't about coaching but it beautifully illustrates the philosophy and approach of Align Coaching.
